Manufacture left sidebox not appearing

I have selected the Manufacture sidebox to appear on the left side. I have gone into Tools/layout settings/ and turned on the manufacture box, however the manufacture box is not appearing. This would be the case no matter which template i was using... Thank you for your help.

You have to have manufacturers set up and at least one product assigned to at least one of them before the box will appear.
