Sort ordering is not changing.

the sort ordering is not changing.

I want to use my defined sort order numbers in descending order. (ie 999 > 0) but no matter which setting i use, it sorts by alphbetical order of the title.

i tried 1a 1d 2a 2d 4a 4d and blank for the value in Display Product Listing Default Sort Order.

where did i go wrong?

i tinkered even more with it and got it sorting by th sort nyumbers, but i am unable to reverse the order
