Override folders not showing up in WinMerge

Hi all,

I'm starting the process of upgrading from 1.3.9f to 1.5.

I've been using the templates override system all along, so any changes I needed to make were being put into folders called 'flowers'. I have lots of these 'flowers' folders in various places in my live system - which I have now FTP'd onto my local machine from the web server.

However when I run WinMerge it's not showing me all these folders called 'flowers', so how can I find them easily? Surely I don't have to trawl through the folders recursively looking for a 'flowers' folder?

Thanks,
WP.

Re: Override folders not showing up in WinMerge

You will need to tell WinMerge which specific folders you wish to compare.

When you have the comparison open in winmerge, under your view menu, do you have all the "Show bla bla bal"options ticked?

Re: Override folders not showing up in WinMerge

Hi,

Thanks for replies.

I'm telling WinMerge which specific folders to compare, but I didn't have all the Show XYZ options ticked.

I ticked all those, but because the 1.3.9f files have a different date and time than the live store files, they're all showing up as different! At least I presume that's what the difference is - I've gone into a few of the folders that are showing up and there are actually no differences at all apart from the date and time on the folder which I think is quite misleading. I still have to one by one go into each folder and see are there any actual differences other than the creation date.

I can't see any way of telling it to ignore the date - is there some way to do this?

Many thanks,

J.

As far as I know, WinMerge does not care about the date and time of files, the focus is on the content of the files.

Re: Override folders not showing up in WinMerge

I would have thought so too.

Not to worry, I've used a different way of doing the search and found all the folders called 'flowers'. I have created a flowers folder in all the same places in my Ver1.5 folder, and compared each override file to the Ver1.5 file. I made the relevant changes, and then copied all my 'flowers' folders into my Ver1.5Demo folder on the server where I've installed Version 1.5 along with all the demo data.

So far so good.

Now, I've read the upgrade instruction about 50 times but I'm finding it really difficult to get a grasp of things. Sorry for asking for it to be spelled out, but please bear with me...

The database that I created is currently populated with my demo data - do I need to create another database to restore my backed-up live store into? Or do I wipe the demo data out of that db and restore my own store data into that?

I have installed the new version of Zen Cart into a folder called Version_1-5_Demo, and my configure.php files reflect this: define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/Version_1-5_Demo/'); - when I'm ready to go live, do I have to copy everything from the Version_1-5_Demo folder up into the httpdocs (root) folder? And then modify the config files accordingly?

There are so many folders mentioned in the instructions, between zen_backup, zen_orig, store_new and zen_new that I'm getting really confused every time I try and read what to do!

Hopefully I'm nearly there!

Sounds perfect, thanks!

I'll let you know how I get on.
