Please change wording of 403 Block notice for OperaMini users
OperaMini has a built in proxy. This can confuse people because unlike OperaMobile there is no setting for the proxy so you might not relise you are browsing via Opera's servers.
It was very distressing at first to read that apparently my IP had been blocked, banned and (this was the thing that made me think of calling a lawyer and worrying about the possibility of law enforcement turning up at my girlfriends house) - added to a local honeypot IP list.
In researching OperaMini I found that the IP is actually Opera's in the USA.
However, a few suggestions:
- Suggest that someone could have used the IP you are using as a proxy for attack
- Possibly detect the Opera proxies and let us down nicely
- An aggressive tone is ok if we know we are going to get a 0% false positive rate but my experience has put a hole in that assumption so we might need to tone the wording down a bit; "We're sorry but..." "This might not be your fault..." "We are having to act strongly..." etc
- I didn't add a '?' to the end of the URL but that was the page I was looking at. I can only presume that I was forwarded to this page. Please inform me of that because this is the part that was very confusing.
