Paypal Express Checkout (DEBUG) questions

Hi,

I just installed Paypal Express on my zc139. I enabled DEBUG mode, choosing to receive Log and Email.

The first few test purchases resulted in about 30 emails each! :shocking:

Everything seemed to work from the customer perspective, though I have issues I want to work out.

But my question is which of the 30 ALERTS & EMAILS should I be paying attention to? Is it normal to receive so many? What should I be looking for?

If a problem exists, what would it look like in my email alerts?

I really want to turn on Paypal Payments Pro, but had to install Express first. I'm afraid to turn on Pro until I'm sure I'm cool with Express.

Some guidance would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Paypal Express Checkout (DEBUG) questions

I went ahead and switched on Paypal Payments Pro and ran a test purchase. Seemed to go without a hitch.

But for some reason I am not receiving email notice from Paypal that a payment has been process.

EXPRESS TEST (paying with personal paypal acct):
Customer receives Account Created notice from my store
Customer receives Payment Made notice from paypal
Customer receives Order Confirmation from my store
I receive New Order alert from my Store
I do NOT receive Payment Received notice from paypal!

PRO TEST (paying with random credit card):
Customer receives Account Created notice from my store
Customer receives Order Confirmation from my store
I receive New Order alert from my Store
I do NOT receive Payment Received notice from paypal!

How do I tell Paypal to send me an email when payment received?

Re: Paypal Express Checkout (DEBUG) questions

About your debug emails/logs:

First, essentially you don't need to look at any of those if there are no problems completing a transaction.

Second, if you use log-to-file instead of log-to-email, then you'll get just a couple files since the content is appended. With emails it must send a separate email for each step, since it can't append to the last one that was already sent. Log-to-email is really only appropriate in a case where you suddenly don't have FTP access for some very unexpected reason.

That's up to PayPal. They are the ones who send that email. Zen Cart has no control over that.

A more accurate test would be to see whether the transaction is showing in the PayPal account you thought you sent it to.

Re: Paypal Express Checkout (DEBUG) questions

Thanks, DrByte.

That is what I was hoping to hear. I am turning DEBUG off entirely until when/if I run into a problem.

Everything appears smooth at the moment.

Payments are showing up in the right place. Everything is looking good, thanks.

I realize the answer to this question is outside ZC. I will figure out the setting change in the Paypal acct.
