New blank order created after valid order (same transaction id)

The first time I noticed this was just now, and this is the first time it happened so I don't know if it will happen again.

A customer made a valid order on my site and paid using paypal. It was echeck, but i doubt that matters.

I recieved the first valid order confirmation, and then immediately after a 2nd confirmation with order # one number higher , but no items in the list:

"Products

Sub-Total: $0.00
: $0.00
Total: $0.00

Delivery Address

,

Billing Address

,

Payment Method
------------------------------------------------------"

Also, the transaction ID on the top of both emails is matching.

The first mail had the valid "office use info" on the The second email has this on the bottom:
Office Use Only:
From:
Email:
IP Address: 66.211.170.66 - 66.211.170.66
Host Address: notify.paypal.com
Date and Time: Tue Mar 13 2012 9:05:18 MDT

-> Note, the last order I recieved before this was about 10 hours ago so either this is a very new issue or it does not happen all the time so I don't know exactly how to reproduce it.

  • using the latest version with all USPS updates.
  • has been freshly installed on v1.5.0
  • no addons except usps
  • only style customizations

anyway, this is kind of a minimal issue unless it keeps happening in which case i'm sure someone else will notice it. but just wanted to post what i saw.

Re: New blank order created after valid order (same transaction id)

Also...

"The Admin Activity Log table has records over 2 months old and should be archived to conserve space ... 01-12-2012"

has been "triggered" between the previous order and this order, and I did not erase the logs yet...

it is likely unrelated... but maybe.
i will refrain from erasing the logs to see if it happens again.

There are 3 built-in PayPal modules. WHICH one are you using, and why?

I am using PayPal express checkout. It is the one I have always used...

Re: New blank order created after valid order (same transaction id)

Some additional info:

the new blank order shows in admin panel with no name, but the type is GV/DC instead of paypalwppusps .

This is weird because my store does not even have gift certificates enabled at all.

Re: New blank order created after valid order (same transaction id)

It appears to be a quirk with incoming IPN notifications from your EC transactions. A complete "fix" will require coding changes, none of which are scheduled at the moment.

In the meantime, if you can live without your store being told about refunds or cleared echecks, you can turn off IPN notification in your PayPal account's profile settings.

Re: New blank order created after valid order (same transaction id)

ok --- i did not see the problem a second time yet, and echeck is kind of rare so it should be fine.

Re: New blank order created after valid order (same transaction id)

Do keep in mind that you'll still get the PayPal email saying that the echeck has cleared (or any other changes for that matter), so you can manually update the transaction status in your store in those cases.
