question about upgrading

so im reading the faq for the upgrade. i need some help with this upgrade. can you simply put a new version of zen cart on the server in a different folder and import the data base and do the upgrade. i need step by step instructions on how to do this. i tried this and zen cart said it would over write any zen cart installed. well i do not want to do this and the only reason i'm upgrading is the host will not use the older version of php..so cart is down and i need to get it up and running asap. whats the fastest and easiest way to upgrade my zen cart..to bad their is no where on the net that gives stupid people step by step so can get this done today i need my cart up asap!!

thank you i have read all thease..
and if the steps are not clear on what you need to do, then you need to be a little clearer on what part of the upgrade instructions are UNCLEAR..

Because the instructions in this FAQ (https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=98) does answer your original question > can you simply put a new version of zen cart on the server in a different folder and import the data base and do the upgrade. i need step by step instructions on how to do this. i tried this and zen cart said it would over write any zen cart installed and it provides step by step instructions for doing this..

If you are concerned about the overwrite part, you WANT to overwrite the files if your down and dirty objective is to get Zen Cart v1.5 running. You would then run the upgrade to convert the DB to the latest version.. This would get you MINIMALLY a working version of Zen Cart v1.5 with your old DB converted to v1.5..

Any customizations and add-ons you installed will then need to be applied to this new v1.5 installation separately. (which is why the FAQ says to make copies of your old install and to make notes about the customizations you made)

Of course if you are looking for a "one-click" way to upgrade Zen Cart, I'm afraid there is no "one-click" method to the Zen Cart upgrade process (like WordPress).. You just gotta roll up your sleeves on this one.. The method described in the FAQ IS > the fastest and easiest way to upgrade my zen cart
