meta title

Hi,
the meta title for my item pages are showing productName, model, productPrices and tagline as well as the meta title that I put on the item. How do I get rid of everything except what I input.

Can I have it so meta title will show default for anything I have not worked on but be over written when I make changes in Meta Tags.

Re: meta title

Having thought about it, productName and tagline are all I need in the title, so my question now, is how do I remove the model and productPrices?

I also read in another thread that once a meta tag has been overwritten, it will not return to default if the overwrite is removed.

Is that a true statement?

Re: meta title

thank you for that. I was hoping it would set everything to a default.

In Admin - Catalog - Product Types - Edit Layout, I changed Product Name and Product Tagline to True and left the others at False but I still need to go into each item's meta tag and "Mark What the Product's Meta Tag Title Should Include:"

Should editing the layout have fixed this?

Re: meta title

Zencart will by default* use the product name as the meta title unless you enter a specific meta title. In that case, you will have both a Product Name and a Meta Title, which may not be the same.

On our sites, we now often have a Product Name visible on the product page, and a Meta Title that is (usually slightly) different, which the customer does not see but the search engines do. If we do not use a custom Meta Title, we simply let zencart generate the Product Name as the meta title.

BTW, we do this via Easy Populate (the ones that handle meta titles, keywords, description.)

Re: meta title

I understand what you're saying but > *Unless turned off in admin where you found it. is not turning off.

I made the changes in > Admin - Catalog - Product Types - Edit Layout as suggested by Stevesh which should set the default throughout the site. Individual changes would then be possible within each item meta tag page as and when needed.

That is not the case here. The default is not propagating throughout the site. I still need to go into every item to make the change.

Is this a bug within ZenCart and is Easy Populate the fix?

Re: meta title

The settings in the Product Types screen apply ONLY to products you create AFTER changing those settings.

Existing products will have to be updated separately. The only built-in tool for that is manually editing each one.
