New User - Issues with template and side bars.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to read this request for knowledge!

I had a friend help me setup a website about a year ago using Zencart. While trying to change some information, my site was completely deleted without a working backup. Unfortunately he was good enough to help with the setup, but wasn't very well informed about how to backup both the ftp and the actual brains of the zencart site.

Anyways, I have finally gotten the courage to start the re-build. I asked my friend to install the newest version of Zencart for me. I have since installed a template, but the side banners don't appear to be working?

Please see this link;

I realized that rather than completely deleting everything from the ftp, he has installed the new zencart where my old site used to exist. I'm guessing that some changes from the original website are somehow effecting this one? I suspect that starting completely fresh might be my best bet.

Questions;

  1. Based on looking at the website, is it possible that the lack of banners is simply related to the settings inside the zencart admin? If so, any suggestions of what I could change to get them back?

  2. If the issue is related to the ftp full of files from the previous website. How do I go about starting fresh? When I log into the FTP I see the following folders on the route folder;

admin, bmz cache, cache, cgi-bin, ... includes, zcadmin, zc_install, zc admin (dont delete) etc etc.

How do you start brand new? Can I just delete all the files that I just referenced, or are some of those files important to leave?

Sorry, I don't understand how a website works, and if all those files are all there from Zencart, or if some of them are needed to just run the website in general.

Thanks for your help... I take good notes so you'll only have to explain some of this once!

Thanks again for taking the time to read this and help out a new user!

:D

Re: New User - Issues with template and side bars.

The first step after activating a template is to go to Tools > Layout Boxes Controller and click "reset" at the bottom. Then you can arrange your sideboxes as you like.

Re: New User - Issues with template and side bars.

Found another issue with the website now. Seems the side bars are working, but the graphics don't match the size. If you look at my website you'll see what I mean. The actual header graphics extend outside the page.

Anyone know how to resolve this, or is this a problem with the template itself?

Thanks again!

Re: New User - Issues with template and side bars.

I saw the issue yesterday. Looks like the OP changed the column widths to match the images.

Re: New User - Issues with template and side bars.

I was able to contact the template provider and adjust the widths appropriately.

I made the mistake in thinking that the template would somehow adjust or override the setting in the zencart admin. I now understand how they are separate and how the admin is what changes the templates attributes.

Learning Curve ahead!

lol - thanks for checking back though, really appreciate it. Great community here! :clap:
