Simple question: What is the CURRENT USPS shipping module?

I'm a little confused because there seem to be two different USPS modules and I don't know if they're different versions of the same thing, two different modules by different people doing the same thing, etc. I read somewhere but can't remember which thread, that one of them had problems with international orders or something... does anyone know what I'm talking about? I just want to make sure I'm using the right USPS module. Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question.

Second stupid question: Is there an official support thread for it? With the Search I'm able to find lots of USPS threads, but none that looks like "THE" thread for the module...

Not really there are so many issues or convoluted needs associated with shipping that they are usually best posted separately on their on threads ...

I have received messages from USPS that "RateV2 APIs" have been retired and I need to be using "RateV4" instead.

I remain confused as the module at

specifically refers to RateV4 in the title.

while the Jan 22 version at
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=191406
shows RateV3 as part of the folder name when un-zipped, but this is the current version?

Since USPS shut down their support for V2 on April 1st, my storefront (running 1.3.7) is also down until I fix this. I'm taking this as an opportunity to do a complete`rebuild at a new host with version 1.5 and want to make sure I get it right.

It does appear that the Jan 22 version is easier to install, just putting 2 files in the correct folders, rather than needing cgi stuff.

USPS currently works with RateV3 or RateV4 ...

The January 22, 2012 that has been posted in the announcement for Upgrading USPS is the RateV3 ...

I have the same problem. My USPS was shut down. I followed all the directions and installed the new version from the 1/22 post. Still no USPS shipping available. UPS works fine..
Any tips or ideas?

First, go to the Tools ... Developers Tool Kit ... and in the bottom input box enter:
usps.php

What comes up on the version id?

Next, call USPS 1-800-344-7779 (7:00AM to 11:00PM ET) and ensure that your usps id is active for the production server ...

I talked to USPS and they assured me that RateV3 and Rate4 are current ...

Is the RateV3 thing something I need to set somewhere? The USPS website is a bear to navigate and I wasn't able to find answers there. Here is what is in my usps.php file header:

Do I need to do anything special at the USPS site, or change anything in my settings or files? Running ZC 1.5.0 fyi.

Could you use the Tools ... Developers Tool Kit ... and do the search in the bottom input box for:
usps.php

and select Catalog ... then click SEARCH ...

The idea here is to see what is on your server ... :unsure:

Also, if you PM me your userid with USPS I can test it on another site and see if there are shipping options available with your code ...

I finally figured it out. Just posting to be of help in case someone else is pulling their hair out.

I am running an older version of Zencart so I used V3 instead of V4. Yay. It worked.

After I realized the USPS Jan 22 (V3) module is just two php files without any sql database changes, I went ahead and updated my existing 1.3.7 storefront. Worked fine - back in business! Thank you.

Doing the big rebuild on a new host running zc 1.5 will be procrastinated a little longer.
