How to add images and expand the navigation?

What is the best route to go in adding images/icons/graphics to the dropdown navigation? I understand the subcategory pages are dynamically created. So I guess I'm interested in hardcoding it into the nav. What tpl_somepage.php would I need to alter?

Here is an example of what I'm trying to pull off. Not exactly like that but I think this could give you an idea.

Do you mean the horizontal nav menu on ralph lauren? Where you mouse over and a menu drops down with nice graphics and other links in it? If so then you must have a custom navigation menu because as far as I know that's not default zencart. If thats the case then it's hard to say where you need to edit.

Yes! Thank you. I'm pretty sure I found the correct php file to edit. I'll post up the info when I get to my computer.

Not sure she is willing to offer advice without some sort of payment. But thanks anyway. I'll post the results of what I figure out over here.

You might be able to adapt the image substitution code from Categories Dressing for your purposes. You would need to be at least minimally competent in PHP to write something that would work dynamically.

Not too long ago I emailed Anne/Picaflor Azul about her site's drop down. It is a custom one that she might be able to incorporate in a custom template.

Of course, we do it yourselfers will have a chore trying to look like Ralph Lauren or any major site.

Then there are a couple of "mega menus" where we might potentially be able to add images in the categories drop down. I'd have no idea how, though.

I've actually had some success with manipulating the CSS file in my template (stylesheet_categories_menu.css). I changed the background color to an image. Although it shows on all of the categories. I'll need to incorporate pseudo classes. Will post when done later today.

Was directed to a tutorial that enhanced what this free template came with. Just a little copying and pasteing of additional code to get where I'm at. Hope I can fully pull this off. If so, drop down can be put on virtually any template.
