Newbie - Help with Categories and Products

HI, I have a new installation of Zen Cart 1.5. I installed it using FTP and zc-install.
I have added a template which I bought.

I am brand new to Zen Cart and this is the first store I'm building in it.

I tried editing the product types and renamed one to jewellery. I changed the handler page name to jewellery.

I deleted the sample categories and products and created my own categories.

I now can't upload any products to the shop at all. When I try it takes me to a 404 error.

I have tried to make out some other threads which talk about the sample products and categories and handler pages but they are not written in easy to understand language and I am at a loss right now.

I don't understand the product types at all. I don't think I need this on the site but it appeared that you needed it to upload products.

I believe I need to add a handler page for jewellery but don't know how to do this.

I don't know what I need to do to fix the ability to add new products.

Could someone explain in really simple terms what I need to do and where I can find instructions .... please!! I can't understand html and am fairly techie but this is beyond me due to the instructions being not very user friendly.

The website is http://kcjewellery-online.com/shop/

Many thanks in advance for any help at all!

Re: Newbie - Help with Categories and Products

The only time you would change/add a product type is if you need specific features that can't be gotten with an existing product type. 99.9% of users probably never add another product type. You might best start over (with the experience you have gained, the second time will be much easier and faster) and leave the demo products out this time as you don't need them cluttering up the live database with remnants. It is a REALLY GOOD idea to have the demo products available in a test/development site elsewhere, as they all have teaching functions.

You can use the default product-general for your jewelry products.

Urgh, How do I go about re-installing? Is that really the easiest way? I've spent hours and feel like throwing in the towel!!

It's ok, I think I've worked it out. Many thanks. Now to reinstall the template!
