How to exclude categories from sidebox to show else where?

Hi,

This is what the client wants to do and I need to know what file and code to use to accomplish this.

Client has a slider on his home page with logos of different manufacturers, he wants to link the logo to their respective category, but he does not want the category link to show up in the categories side box. How would I accomplish this?

Thanks for any help.
