are there privilege levels for submitting a review. i see a link for pending reviews. where can i alter it to allow reviews to post instantly or non registered users to post a review ?

To allow reviews to post instantly (not recommended), go to your Admin's Configuration->Product Info->Product Reviews Require Approval and change it to 0. For non-registered users to write reviews, you'll need a plugin since that's not stock zen-cart behavior; check out the dgReviews (http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=116) one ... you might need to modify it somewhat to work with v1.5.0.

You might also try the "Reviews by Guests" plugin; it looks like that one might work "out of the box" with v1.5.0 ...
