Discount Coupon Restrictions question

Just upgraded to version 1.5 from 1.3.8a

Modules:

Sales Report, Magic Thumb, Simple Google Analytics (thats it!)

In version 1.3.8a I was able to create a coupon that gave a discount of $6.99. The requirement was that the customer spent $16.97 and the ONLY restriction was an ALLOW Product Restriction. So that meant that in order for the coupon to work, the customer would need to have $16.97 in their cart as well as the product specified in restrictions in order for the $6.99 discount to be applied. This worked for over 2 years with no problems.

In version 1.5, the coupons were copied over verbatim (and I even tried to recreate them) and upon applying the discount code, the cart says "You must spend at least $16.97 to redeem this coupon" even though my cart contains over $20 in items. If I remove the product restriction, the discount is applied.

Is this a bug?

I REALLY need it to work the way it used to work so that the $6.99 discount is ONLY applied when they have a specific product in the cart and meet the minimum requirement.

as far as setting deny on ALL categories, ALLOW on the corresponding product category and ALLOW on the product and the cart still says "You must spend at least $16.97 to redeem this coupon"

Could you post your exact settings on the Discount Coupon as well as the specifics on the Coupon Restrictions?

I put a fresh install of version 1.5 with nothing on it today and I can't get the product restrictions to come up at all. All it is showing is coupon zone restrictions for locations. Am I missing something?

Yes. You have to create and Confirm the coupon, then you'll see the Restrictions button when you view the coupon list.

I have tried that and it does not help.

Are you trying to make the minimum amount the minimum of the Product or the Order itself?

The order needs to be a minimum of $6.99, but the coupon should only work with that specific product in the cart.

This is going to confuse you, but I'll do my best to explain.

We release a new product every week and each week we have a new free gift. The new product being the free gift.
In our marketing, we say that they have to spend at least $9.98 in order to get the new kit for free. If you add the value of the free gift to the minimum, you get $16.97. Once the $6.99 (kit value) is deducted, you're back at $9.98.

So yes, the kit value is also $6.99, the coupon technically gives it to them for free as long as they meet the minimum and have that specific kit in their cart. This worked fine for over 2 years with 1.3.8

does that need to go into /includes/modules/order_total/ and not /includes/modules/ ?

Gotcha! So the file you gave me was more of a customization? I'm guessing that the code changed since v 1.3.8? Does this mean I need to buy you dinner?
