I have been using it for 6 months on all my sites. Anything to eliminate risk is worth it, however you will have issues with honest people that get declined because of filters I have set in there.

It has nothing to do with shopping cart, it works well with Authorize payment gateway and if the information doesn't pass your filters it will decline the order and report the reason.

However I am looking into other options right now to minimize risk even more since our industry has tons of thieves.

Its a pretty good solution given how much it costs. Given that the filters are somewhat basic, it is good at addressing only certain types of fraud. For example, the velocity filter comes in handy if your site is being attacked by credit card testers. The IP region flags can be useful for flagging orders from high risk countries based on the customer's IP address. Beyond that, the main filters center around AVS and CVV, which the more sophisticated fraudsters tend to be able to bypass as well as the IP checks cause they can use proxies.

What happens when fraud is detected?

You get an email alert. Depending on how you setup your filters, it determines if the order gets put on hold, authorized but not captured,...etc.

If you are concerned about fraud and are looking to protect yourself, it should get it but just be aware of the limitations. If you are seeing fraud, it might be able to address it depending on what you are seeing. One of the drawbacks of AFDS is that once an order has triggered filters, there isn't a lot of information for you to use to validate the order. You might see that there was an incomplete AVS mismatch which can happen to legitimate customers. So you have to then go out and find ways to validate the orders.

I would never run a site without it. Depending on what you are selling will determine what filters to use. I would start with at least AVS and CVV, that's usually enough. Some sites I must even use phone verification, in which case i use a company "telesign"
