500 Error When Viewing Admin and Cart Page

I am taking a class where we need to install the Zen Cart. I have completed all the requirements to download and install it. However I cannot view the admin page nor see the cart itself. I have attempted to troubleshoot using the basic instructions. What error message do I get? None. In FF which I will be using the page(s) are blank. However in IE it states a programming error a 500 error page. What do I do next? Should I uninstall and try again?

First, unless you are both using the same server and same site, it is almost never the exact same problem. Maybe the exact same error, but a 500 error can be caused by many things.
IF you both are having 500 errors, that indicates that something is wrong with the server or its settings. You need to contact your server admin.
