Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

v.1.3.9h
Hi - I just moved one site to another host resulting in a variety of issues. Additionally I moved another site within that hosting account which was already there and it too is playing up. (have been at it for 29 hours with 3 hours sleep so am getting narky :smile: )

Firstly I cannot find the FAQ Article about steps to do when moving a site - both links in FAQ troubleshooting in article about "1146 database does not exist .......... etc etc only take you to the ZenCart home page - path should be ......./article=100 but it doesn't work.

I really want to read that article in detail as I am having issues so any help with another working link to the same article would be appreciated.

I cannot get into my admin on either site using domain/admin/login.php as I always have and the sites will not load (one is blank, the other has a blank coloured page and an error box stating error: DIV "fadeshow1" cannot be found on the page - clicking on OK just leaves then a blank page .... it is actually loaded on the main page via pages editor (?) in Admin/Tools by inserting j.s and worked well, on both sites, so if I could get into admin I could likely fix that :dontgetit

I originally had issues of "1146 database does not exist but eventually sorted out the database strings so that the ERROR I get now is, "ERROR: admin/includes/configure.php file not found. Suggest running zc_install/index.php?" that is on one site, the one just moved from an Australian Host to GoDaddy in the U.S. ......... the other site was already at GoDaddy but I moved it to be the PRIMARY "root" domain within my hosting account and now after hors of fiddling and getting all sorts of error messages including 1146 I now have the Welcome to Zencart page load up saying either configs are wrong or welcome to a new installation.

I know in both cases the admin/includes/configure.php and includes/configure.php have all the correct strings but it still wants to tell me that admin/includes/configure.php doesn't exist (technically it doesn't as it is myadminname/includes/configure.php buy "myadminname" is nominated in the strings as the "admin" folder. This is the same for both sites but one actually loads the welcome page whilst the other is a simple text message as per above.

IF I reload ZenCart via another install, indicating that it is an upgrade albeit technically it is not but that should stop the database from being wiped out ... yes/no? ..... then what effects will it have on all the zencart plugins and features I currently have on the site??? will a re-load simply overwrite wrong configuration files or all Zencart files?

I am getting desperate as with both sites down I am losing income :(

QUESTION ....... is there supposed to be a configure.php file in the main admin directory (folder) as admin/configure.php ?? Both my sites have them there and they are exact duplicates of admin/includes/configure.php. Is this OK or have I made an error?

any help is appreciated.

cheers,
Mike

seem to work fine for me.

No.
/admin/configure.php is system code.
/admin/includes/configure.php is your list of defines which determine the URLs etc for your site's admin access
The two files are completely different.

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

Thanks Doc ..... I found a link to work by Googling it - after reading it I now know I should have been putting a number of things in place as preparation over the past couple of days rather than having this headache.

Oh well, live and learn.

cheers,
Mike

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

Maybe all is not as well as it seems. How do I make a fresh new install of ZC on a server where there is an existing install on the same site without causing duplication issues? I figure back up files and database then delete and start again??

Is there a better way?

cheers,
Mike

As to that specific question ...
Zen Cart exists as two components: a set of files and a MySQL database. If you create a separate database and use that database's credentials when you run zc_install in the new folder you uploaded the files to, then the two sites will run independently of each other. Don't use a one-click-install option from your hosting company since it probably won't support having two sites in the same hosting account.

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

Thanks again for your input Doc.

I am starting from scratch and have read all the available articles on how to move a site or indeed move a folder containing ZenCart.

One question at this point - before now starting from scratch I tried to import the old mysql database into the new fresh one but had error(s) regarding address_book format and also a 1062 error. Will using your Fix_Cache_Key which I have just downloaded fix that issue of recognition in database importing? I don't know why there would be an address book format mismatch - I haven't changed anything in the database at all.

cheers,
Mike

No. The fix_cache_key utility has nothing to do with database-importing or database-integrity or anything like that. ALL it does is exactly what is described in its description and in the FAQ article that references it: it just sets a directory name in one record. Nothing more.

Your database-import issues will need to be sorted out separately. If you have a database integrity problem, you should sort that out before going any further. And we can't help you with those details without seeing exact error messages and the corresponding import data.

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

Thanks again Doc - here are the errors I get when trying to import the old database into the new database. I have not touched a thing in PhPmyadmin as I haven't a clue what to do other than hit the import or export tabs - everything else is double dutch to me at present.

Any assistance is appreciated - cheers, Mike

Error

SQL query:

MySQL said: Documentation

after "VALUES" above it lists actual customer entries which I have left out for security reasons - shows them like this - false details inserted.

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

Sounds like you created your export without telling it to create DROP TABLE statements. Thus your import is attempting to add data that clashes with records already in the database, and it's a good thing that it's halting because otherwise you'd have all kinds of duplicate data or unrelated data messing things up.

Review the instructions for properly exporting your database for a backup: http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?144-how-can-i-do-a-database-backup-with-phpmyadmin

DOC - your blood is worth bottling !! I had in fact read the information and did a database export including drop tables BUT I didn't delete the previous export that didn't have the Drop Tables and .... you guessed it ... I was trying to import the wrong version. As soon as I read your response the penny dropped so I imported the correct version and BINGO !!

MANY, MANY THANKS indeed Doc - you have won my upmost respect as someone with experience and knowledge of ZenCart who has two essential character traits that make a great teacher ... patience and consideration for those of us who are still very much in the learning phase.

This experience (not yet over, not until both sites are actually live again :) ) has taught me NOT TO TAKE SHORTCUTS .. read the instructions FULLY and follow them EXACTLY. If by chance the instructions are not quite right then at least there is a fall back point. Like baking a cake really - if you want it perfect then follow the recipe.

I will now continue with this transfer process and I will let you know the outcome (hopefully I won't need to call upon you again, well not for this specific task).

cheers,
Mike

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

Hello again Doc ..... site is now up but I cannot log in to admin. When logging in to admin using domain/admin/login.php I get the "Hello, thank you for installing Zencart" system setup required page. I have gone through every procedure in the FAQ article "cannot log in after installing" with no luck.

I ran your fix_cache_key.php and there were no issues there at all. I have checked and re-checked both configure.php files to ensure that the connection strings were correct and that they match, including the DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE addresses matching, got the address from the fix_cache_key recommendation.

When I loaded my store over the top of the new install I overwrote every file except the two configure files.

So I am still stumped. Any ideas?

cheers,
Mike

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

The "Thank you for installing" screen goes on to say "for one or more of the following reasons" and then states at least 2 common reasons, and sometimes a 3rd very specific reason.
What are the reasons stated? Fix those and you'll be back up and running.

Edit:
Additional question. You said that going to /admin/login.php brings up the error. What about going to /admin/index.php before logging in? Same thing, or different?

Edit:
Additional question. You said that going to /admin/login.php brings up the error. What about going to /admin/index.php before logging in? Same thing, or different?

  1. I have double checked the 3 things stated, i.e. configure.php (both files) and database path accuracy - I even look for the correctness of ' marks and other punctuation error possibilities.
  2. yes same thing, and even just /admin (which is also supposed to work if you look at the welcome page near the bottom). This is now getting into the valium stage :dontgetit

So now what I have done / am doing is started afresh with the "second site" in question and have stopped at the fresh install and I have access to admin. Now the next steps are;

  1. upload all the old files from the old server to the new server from my backed up files on my PC with the EXCEPTION OF /admin/includes/configure.php and includes/configure.php BUT what about admin/index.php ?? is it OK to overwrite that file ?? (and admin.php ? )
  2. when I import the old database does the old admin info overwrite the new admin info ?

I have admin access on this second site but no store so when doing any overwriting from this point I want to make sure it does not then change admin access settings.

cheers,
Mike

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

shags38:

  1. I have double checked the 3 things stated, i.e. configure.php (both files) and database path accuracy - I even look for the correctness of ' marks and other punctuation error possibilities.If point #3 is stated, it probably says the paths are wrong, which means the paths specified cannot be assembled in a way that allows the software to find its required files.
    Without seeing a copy of that file, it's really hard to give you specific help. But if you were to take a copy of that file from the server and share it by pasting its text here (without the db password), it might help us help you.
    shags38:

  2. yes same thing, and even just /admin (which is also supposed to work if you look at the welcome page near the bottom).If you're referring to the last page of zc_install (which is the only place where any Admin link would contain "/admin/" as the actual path, as far as original Zen Cart operation is concerned), then it's entirely understandable that the link would point to /admin, since a fresh install still has "/admin/" as the foldername, and there's no way for zc_install to know of any other name for the folder anyway. If you've renamed the folder then it would be reasonable to expect you to simply type the correct new path/foldername to access your admin.
    shags38:

So now what I have done / am doing is started afresh with the "second site" in question and have stopped at the fresh install and I have access to admin.Good to know. It's always important to test that the fresh install works correctly. I believe that's mentioned in the tutorial article too.
shags38:

BUT what about admin/index.php ?? is it OK to overwrite that file ?? (and admin.php ? )I don't see why not. They have nothing to do with the configuration settings, and are not site-specific ... unless of course you've made system changes which do make them site specific (a rare scenario, but not something I can guarantee, since only you have control over your sites and files).
shags38:

  1. when I import the old database does the old admin info overwrite the new admin info ?When you import the old database you replace the database contents. And since admin passwords are stored in the database, you'll need to use the admin user/password credentials which belong to the store using the database data you're importing.

define('SQL_CACHE_METHOD', 'none');
define('DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE', '/home/content/80/7894680/html/cache');

the following as a copy of the configuration of the database

This example describes using PHP to connect to a MySQL Database on a Linux hosting account.
<?php
//Connect To Database
$hostname='hbpendantsmay12.db.7894680.hostedresource.com';
$username='hbpendantsmay12';
$password='your password';
$dbname='hbpendantsmay12';
$usertable='your_tablename'; .... I didn't insert anything here
$yourfield = 'your_field'; .... I didn't insert anything here

mysql_connect($hostname,$username, $password) OR DIE ('Unable to connect to database! Please try again later.');
mysql_select_db($dbname);

$query = 'SELECT * FROM ' . $usertable;
$result = mysql_query($query);
if($result) {
    while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){
        $name = $row[$yourfield];
        echo 'Name: ' . $name;
    }
}
?>

When you import the old database you replace the database contents. And since admin passwords are stored in the database, you'll need to use the admin user/password credentials which belong to the store using the database data you're importing.

I am using the same username/password combination in the new database as was used in the old database - the old database still exists in the same hosting account on the same server as the new database (different database name - I do not want to delete it until all is working OK even though I have exported it, with drop tables etc, to my PC hard drive) - will this have an effect on the current situation?.

hope this helps you.

cheers,
Mike

No it won't have any effect on error messages indicating problems with configure.php files.

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

Thought maybe hosting structure may help you Doc - Hosting account is with GoDaddy, one that allows unlimited everything. The problem site, HarmonyBallPendants.com used to be a site within that hosting account, i.e. had its own directory and another domain was the Primary Domain, however I moved that site to become the "new" Primary Domain for that hosting account. The change of primary domain meant deleting HarmonyBallPendants.com from the account then re-instating it as the primary domain. So that entailed a fresh start. The folder/directory that was harmonyballpendants.com was deleted.

ALL the ZenCart data is in the ROOT, along with 97 other hosted domains, some of which have ZenCart installed, all on different databases but all databases have the common account number as part of the path, e.g. 'databasename.db.COMMONhostingaccountnumber.hostedresource.com'. I am wondering whether I should start this site all over again but nominate a folder in the root "storename" and have all the ZenCart data in one folder instead of in the root amongst all other data. I'm not convinced that this is an issue but moreso will tidy things up.

Re: Moved site and now have BIG ISSUES

You said this domain is "in the root", and that the "harmonyballpendants.com" folder was deleted.

But the configure.php data you posted suggests otherwise.

So maybe that's where your problem is.

shags38:

define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/home/content/80/7894680/html/harmonyballpendants.com/adminfoldername/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home/content/80/7894680/html/harmonyballpendants.com/');

What's the real "document root" folder for this hosting account? If harmonyballpendants.com is truly associated with the root, I would have expected it to be more likely set with the .../html/ part being the assigned root.

But, GoDaddy does different things sometimes. Have you talked to them to determine what is the actual document-root assignment for that account?
