If the header is fluid 100% (not pixels)... what size should the image be?

If I specify a header of 750 pixels, my header_logo.jpg should be 750 pixels. Simple.

If I specify that the header should be 100% of the page (or 75%, or whatever), how do I know how wide the header_logo.jpg should be?

Is there something about that "repeat-x" thingie that could make it... oh, extend the last vertical column of pixels on a 750 pixel image out to the right for as far as needed? I've seen it done with a table, but... there has to be a better way.

Thanks!

Probably the easiest is to put a background for the div that holds the image. The background is just, as you say, the last pixels in the main image repeated. It will fill the whole area. The image itself will be in front so will cover up the parts of the background but the background will show when the image is not wide enough to fill the space.
