Getting 404 after installing Ultimate SEO

trying to install ultimate seo: I have a quick question
for step 3

3. A sample .htaccess file is included. Simply rename to .htaccess and edit the word /shop/ to match your site

is the /shop/ supposed to be changed to "www.mysite.com"
i tried it and the links are all broken so i turned it off in the module section for now till i get this resolved. i have a feeling thats what i did wrong. thanks team!!!

Re: Getting 404 after installing Ultimate SEO

If your store is at top level, try just a single / with nothing after it.

the /shop/ is for a zencart in a domain's subfolder, like https://www.mysite.com/shop/

Re: Getting 404 after installing Ultimate SEO

is your site in your root directory or a subdirectory? did you rename the sample file to read .htaccess ? Does your server have mod_rewrite installed (may seem like a stupid question, but I've seen servers w/o it)? Can you give a link to your site and paste your .htaccess file here?

Hm... It seems OK. You might wanna take another look at your installation files, maybe you missed something... :(

Re: Getting 404 after installing Ultimate SEO

You will want to take a look at three places if you are using Ultimate SEO.

  1. Error logs. These should show any PHP Warnings / Errors. (Zen Cart puts these in DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE).
  2. The settings you are using for Ultimate SEO. (available from the admin interface).
  3. Your .htaccess file.
  4. What the generated URL was.

Most of the time when I've gotten back blank pages I've found the culprit was either templates, what was typed into "define pages" / EZ-Page, or the .htaccess needing to be edited for the hosting environment. In a few rare cases where I've had to look further...

Re: Getting 404 after installing Ultimate SEO

I just had 404 errors on everyone of my pages other than the homepage. I fixed it by changing the:

RewriteEngine On

to

RewriteEngine on

The Capital O messed up my site. Also the /shop/ is just a / for me because my website is in the root directory. Hope this will help you.

You said you are using Zen Cart 1.5? Is this correct? Version 1.5.0? 1.5.1?
What version of "Ultimate SEO URLs" are you trying to use?
Have you read the Ultimate SEO URLs support thread for Zen Cart 1.5?
Can you give us a link to the website (so we can see what is happening)?
Can you provide the settings you are using (found under "Admin" -> "Configuration" -> "SEO URLs")?
Can you provide a copy of the .htaccess file you are using?
Can you post your answers to these questions along with any other potentially relevant information over in the Ultimate SEO URLs support thread for Zen Cart 1.5?

Re: Getting 404 after installing Ultimate SEO

I got the solution...actually in contribution there is one htaccess_sample file ....so i just uploaded that file by renaming as htaccess and i forget to put (.) dot before this ... so after that i tried using .htaccess just renamed again and it worked for my site... Thanks for the replies by the way......!!!!
