Can I delete Paypal CURL Logs

I analyzed my latest load times for a test database and identified it took over 4 hours to load 50,000 Paypal CURL log files located in includes/modules/payment/paypal/logs

Can I safely delete these files? Why are these files being created in the first place?

I found several older threads that reference the subject but neither apply to me.

1. Debug Mode for Module>Payment>Paypal Express Checkout is set to Off and has always been set that way. The CURL files are dated for the entire lifespan of my use of Paypal Express Checkout (2 years).

2. I tried the Tools>Store Manager>Cleanup Debug Log files option and it does not remove the Paypal CURL files located in the logs directory.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. 'test database' and 'cURL log files' don't have a lot in common. Certainly not in regards to 'load times'

Yes, all log files can be safely deleted.

They are created either because you have logging enabled for this facility, or, they could be generated as a result of communication errors.

Perhaps if you could post a copy of the last log file created (remove any confidential data first) and it will provide a clue as to why they are being created.

Thanks for your response Rod. I took a closer look at the content of the files. It appears that 3 different log files are getting created for each Paypal transaction.

I must have something turned on that is creating these files? I checked the Debug Mode option for the 15th time ;) and it is definitely set to 'Off'. Anywhere else I should look?

'Test Database' - I'm getting ready to implement a new feature and created a copy of my production database to test on before making it live.

Those look like regular debug log files to me, and other than the Debug Mode setting at Module>Payment>Paypal Express Checkout, I'm pretty sure there is nothing else that would enable them.

Perhaps if you change this setting to 'log file' or 'log file and email', then perform a test purchase (which should be logged) and then go back and turn it off again and perform another test, it may either fix the problem, or perhaps provide a further clue. In other words, we are 1st trying to determine whether this switch is having any effect at all, and secondly, the mere act of changing and resetting it may possibly invoke a cure.

A bit of a long shot, but worth trying.

Did the test. Debug Mode turned 'On' creates an additional 3 (4 in some cases) log files - one very large file. Turned the option off again and went back to seeing 3 files created for each transaction.

I deleted all of the old log files - everything still works ;) Still not sure why these are being created but at least I've learned that I should purge on a regular basis and definitely don't need to be loading them when I create a test site!
