Using different Shipping Carrier for Different Categories

Hi,
What I need, some categories MUST be shipped via USPS, and the Rest MUST be Shipped via UPS (I am using multiple drop-shippers, few of them ship ONLY UPS and the res USPS). I am New to Zen cart and finally starting to piece everything together :)

Thanks a million in advance,
Robin

Re: Using different Shipping Carrier for Different Categories

You would have to write code to make that happen. You might also search the Web for ceon advanced shipping.

So, for example:

categories: A, B, and C = USPS
categories: D, E, and F = UPS

What if a customer orders products from categories A and E ???

Do they get charged TWICE (or MORE TIMES) for shipping? Looks like they will - once for USPS and again for UPS. And if they order from all your different shippers, EACH one will charge - so there is the potential that their shipping may be more than half their goods purchase cost

So they end up with the following:

i) They pay a massive premium on their shipping
ii) They have to wait for TWO, THREE, FOUR or maybe even MORE separate deliveries.

You will get HUGE numbers of people abandoning their carts at checkout. Or FURIOUS customers demanding returns and refunds.

Just because there are thousands of dropshippers out there, and the technical capacity to calculate shipping the way you want it, does NOT mean it makes good BUSINESS SENSE.

Multiple dropshipping is a dumb idea... And usually ends in the failure of the webshop.

Didn't think of that :)
I just created a subdomain and keeping the products separate
Thanks for the reply

Ceon's advanced shipping module does exactly what you want, but as stated, the shipping costs turn customers off...

Re: Using different Shipping Carrier for Different Categories

We use Ceon's shipping for myflagpoles and people understand that flagpoles have to be sent by a different carrier than what they might want. So, I think it would depend on the situation.

Re: Using different Shipping Carrier for Different Categories

Agreed. I have products that MUST be shipped by UPS Ground. Any other items in the cart will go by the carrier of their choice.

The options are presented to them so if they combine it with the products that must go ground, its a bit cheaper, but if they want it faster, they can choose another carrier/shipping options.

Re: Using different Shipping Carrier for Different Categories

I too need something like this... anyone able to help with the code?

For me if anything from category "4" is ordered then "USPS" should not be one of the options at checkout.

I looked at CEON but am not willing to pay the $78USD for it (yet).

I bet the $78 is less than a dollar an hour for the time it took to develop the mod.
