Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Anne,

I cannot remove your Oxford Dark, Free Template by Picaflor Azul Zen Cart Design on the tops of the header menu all pages. I have been to FAQ, and your instructions with the package. I have changed and fixed it before. It is correctly stated in includes/language/english/oxford_dark/header.php and everywhere else I can find it.

I can't figure it out. Also, how do I get the checkout link to space better so it is not sleeping under the search window. Please forgive me, but I have tried to fix it for over a week.

If you are referring to the title in the browser bar, you can edit the includes/languages/english/oxford_dark/meta_tags.php file.

If you want to make css changes to the template, it is good advice to use firebug or the firefox web developer tools. They will help you to find the line in the css file that you need to edit to make your changes.

I don't think that there is enough room to fit the navigation links next to the search on your site. When someone logs in, the additional my account link and log off link will show and it will run into the logo. I would recommend making these changes in your stylesheet.css file:

#navMain ul {float: right;line-height: 1.5em;list-style-type: none;padding: 0.5em 0;text-align: right;width: 100%;}
#header-lan-curr{color:#fffffc;float:right;margin:0;}
#navMainSearch{float:right;margin-top:-30px;}
#headerWrapper{}
#logo{margin-top:-60px;}

Thanks,

Anne

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Anne,

Have made these corrections, and they help, but the checkout near search window almost disappears when the log in proceeds, and by the time they order, it is almost totally unclickable. Can I move it still more to the left? With the logo higher, am hoping there is more room. Should I avoid the css buttons? Some do not have room for all text, and though I have tried to figure out firebug, it changes so much as you move around, that I cannot seem to figure how it makes things easier.

I wish to change the color of the main navigation text, more info, information, hover over and normal text against the black, and lighter to be more visible. How can I know where to do these edits without bothering you? Have looked stylesheet.css and also seems other stylesheets play into this. Since this is oxford, I am asking for your direction.

Many thanks,

Marc

If you want to learn how to make changes to the css I would recommend the tutorials at the w3schools site. I would also recommend using firefox and installing the web developer tools or firebug. They will help you to find the exact line of which file you need to edit to make css changes.

Thanks,

Anne

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Anne,

I appreciate the design, and have been trying with firebug for over a week to change the color on the categories main information and more information boxes to a lighter color when unselected for weeks. You have a complex design and firebug is brilliant, but me, not so much in understanding all of it. I need to move the text a bit more to the left in the upper panel and to change the color on the fonts on that page. Please advise.

I am killing myself trying to adjust little things, and you seem to revel in referring people with minor knowledge and a lot of heart to resources which take months, years to master. I want to change the color, jeez!

Please,

Marc

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Have been fighting this for a month approximately, and cannot ask any sweeter. I need a tiny bit of help, and cannot seem to get a selector working on firebug. You can help with a tiny lift of a finger, but you tell people to sink their heads into books. I have been trying. I need to change two or three tiny things. WHERE?

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Anne,

I have firebug as I have described. Your post was cryptic enough that I did not realize you considered that an answer. Rather than back and forth 2 dozen times, may I please beg for your direct response and assistance. I want to move the Checkout next to the search further left, so it does not disappear, as you recommended earlier. Also, where may I change the text in the left sidebox for all links, static, hover and clicked upon. whatever they are actually called. I have fought with firebug for two weeks, and cannot isolate just the cart icons sign in icons alone, with CSS info, or learn how to change these fonts.

Please. Tired of not being sharp enough to use the tool as it is meant to be used. I will learn more on the fly, but need your help, please.

Marc

I am not a designer, but I am trying my best to make this work. Please, just a few bits of your admittedly vast knowledge...

But nothing I do changes them. I have read the text of this support group at least 5 times and tried for weeks for your assistance. I read dozens of times where you recommend others to sources outside when if you would have answered their questions, or mine, it might have made this process much less painful.

I don't know why you have dangled me on for weeks of frustration, but if this is where you go for support, it feels like an abuse center, and I am no masochist. I know you are busy, and talented, and that you wish to design not support on a normal basis, but your indifference to the pain, and your recommendation that people learn major design skills seems contrary to the intent of offering Templates. I do appreciate your work, time, and knowledge Anne.

I just wish you were not ignoring justifiable pleas for assistance. I have messed for weeks trying to find the oven dial for font colors! WTH Marc

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Just wanted to add this.. found a cool Firebug tutorial.. its one of the better ones I've seen...

http://www.kristarella.com/2009/02/how-to-use-firebug-for-css/

Firebug and Firefox's Web Developer tools are absolutely the BEST thing since sliced bread!

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

It doesn't dig into the maze of files, it shows too many options and I have been toying and been changing for weeks with little assistance. Can you please provide the direct answer what specific location to change color on this, and the spot. I cannot find it in stylesheet.css and it seems home.css might work, except we don't have one. Come on Anne. What purpose is your evasion? I cannot f-ing find it! I also cannot figure how to move the text left outside of the search bar, even if I find the item it is within, as it shows no font colors. I am so upset that you enjoy torturing those of us without the degrees or knowledge.

You ask us to put it on the site so of value to all. I have read the whole site and nowhere in it have you ever told how to change these colors. Why not help one person and then all of us would know. This is unfair, and meanspirited. I've watched this video, and 4 others, and none of them tell the absolute amateur how to get this answer. You must enjoy torturing us, as this the 5th or 6th time I have written, and in all of these posts, you send questioners to the stocks more than you grant us your assistance.

Mean, and I wish you could understand. I do not want to design for a living. As a businessman, I am trying to make my site with as little expensive help as possible as I do not have great flexibility in that regard. Help me of don't, at this point you have so beat me into a pulp by callous disregard, how could it possibly be cured. I just needed a tiny answer. Too much work, when you know all of my answers, no. Just spiteful arrogance writ large.

Sorry, but after a couple of months working with it, and watching how you talk to others, it is what you seem to do.

For me, I feel badly this dynamic exists here. I cannot appreciate the talent and potential. I cannot believe how much you have dangled this carrot without giving the sustenance I need to fix the site. The contrast is too low. Can I change my stupid colors please? Will you please post a bit of info and get me out of your life?

Thank you for any bit of advise you have given me. I have learned, but not enough apparently to not need help with this tiny issue.

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Holy filibusters Batman!!! Stand down.. NO ONE is torturing you..

Firebug DOES indeed "dig into the maze of files", and one of the many tutorials out there on how to use it would give you an idea of how to use this useful and nifty tool. The tutorial I posted is very useful..

And using this tool I can SEE CLEARLY that you have a stylesheet overriding your other stylesheets which is probably why your links colors are jacked up.. Why don't you START by deleting "includes/templates/oxford_dark/css/stylesheetorig.css", and if the link colors in the sideboxes are STILL not to your liking, then you should look at line 18 of your stylesheet_BetterCategoriesEZinfo.css to adjust your sidebox link colors.

I found ALL of that very easily using Firebug..

Support of free modules and templates doesn't include PHP, CSS, or HTML instructions, and I am not the only one who will say this to you.. You will see folks make suggestions of resources that you can use to help yourself all the time. If as a small business owner you decide to be a DIY webdesigner/developer, then you need to be prepared to roll up your sleeves a bit, and you also need to be preparded to pay for help when you need it too. Finally you need to be patient and to be mindful that FREE support is done by volunteers in their spare time..

This forum is full of helpful people, but the help comes with the expectation that you will want to learn how to fish too.. You asked to learn how to do something yourself, Anne gave you a pointer, and you have gone OFF on a tangent with claims of meanness and torture.. are you really SURPRISED that NO ONE has responded??

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Dear Anne,

Will do as you asked, but the stylesheetorig.css was renamed by me, and should not be called by any program, which is confusing. I will delete it I guess. And I will look at the other. I know that noone owes me anything, but I have been toying with firebug for three weeks to solve this, and have had zero luck. Thanks for any recommendation. I guess to move the text over is something I will need to guess at.

Yes I realized that it was renamed by you.. but you cannot leave it up on the server with the "css" extension or Zen Cart will call it like all of your other stylesheets.. So either delete it or rename it and replace the "css" extension with the "bak" extension.. The BEST PRACTICES option is to not leave files not used by your site on the server..

MarcAnd everyone has been there, but lashing out at folks and making WILD accusations, and then DEMANDING help is never a good way to get help ANYWHERE..

BTW.. Your remaining issue is not unique to this template.. How about trying a change of scenery?? Post a new question in the "Templates and Stylesheet" section.. You might find a community member who will just post the whole answer for you.. If not, instead of lashing out at folks, you have a ton of options.. Do a general search in the forum, or you might want to try doing what I STILL do frequently, when I need an answer.. "Google it".. If all else fails, you may need to be prepared to pay a little bit to get someone to assist you.. If I get some time later I may be able to take a look, but by all means don't wait for me.. Be proactive.. and definitely you will be LESS frustrated if you learn how to use Firebug..

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Dear Anne,

OK, that edited the mouseover color on the whitish background. I can change white background and mouseover color there. Where can I change the plain pinkish color on the black background normal, and where can I change the visited link same thing? All sideboxes in NavColumnOne? Thanks for your help, but this is what I mean it is not intuitive nor does it seem simple.

I am really sorry. I do not blame you, just wish I knew more.

Marc

Finally, how do I move the checkout further left when someone is signed in so you can see it properly. Do you have a suggestion, other than my jumping into a river? ;-)

Re: Oxford Dark Template Support Thread

Diva,

I apologized earlier this afternoon, but perhaps it didn't post. I am sorry to call you Anne when it is not your name. I got confused because Anne and I had corresponded briefly, and then you and I were going back and forth.

Just for saying it sake, when you write this...You might find a community member who will just post the whole answer for you.

It sheds light that perhaps you don't think that is fair, nor that old timers should help new people to some extent. I am trying to fix this for weeks, and if I do wait for you, as you suggest not to, it would be silly as nobody can remember everything in life, and your life, at least online, is quite busy and active. I don't know why people will discuss issues that are one minute cures for weeks without ever giving the answer as to where to locate it in stylesheet.css, but it has been painful and unnecessary. Whether you or Anne choose to give me the answer or not, the entire community suffers with cat and mouse games, and nobody benefits.

At least if you gave me, or any of us the answer, it would be posted for others to read and learn from. What a collossal waste of time, when I would have been doing thousands of things myself, without needing a professionals kindness... Did you really want to be paid for changing a hexdecimal code? I still need to find it, change it many times to get the right color, and somehow keep with a generalized format which Anne designed. Jeez, you thought I wouldn't pay for a cup of coffee. Yes, keep me waiting 3 weeks on a flip answer that costs neither of us more than this dialogue, and we have frustration and anxiety.

My thanks to any and all that answer a casual, simple, direct question with the same attitude, or lack of it. Some would rather play dice with each others patience...

I just wanted to change a deep pink to something other...
