Don't see Ultimate SEO in Admin Config

Hello,

I've uploaded all the files, but still don't see the Ultimate SEO item in the configuration menu of the admin.

Other question about the .htaccess. I believe it's not link but perhaps...

On my server
on /public_html --> a previous zen-cart version with my main https://www.domain.com
on /public_html/catalog --> the 1.5 version with it's own databse and its own domain new.domain.com

I put the .htaccess in /public_html/catalog and modfied it with the line
RewriteBase /catalog/

I'm not sure this is the way to do it.

How to make Ultimate SEO appear in the configuration menu.

Thanks for your help
regards
Hubert

Re: Don't see Ultimate SEO in Admin Config

Better not use this module... it creates more problems than it solves.

There is NO SEO ADVANTAGE to re-written URL's, so you don't even need to do this.

If you really want to have re-written URL's, then you should use CEON URI REWRITER... it is the only module that does URL re-writing safely and properly.

Re: Don't see Ultimate SEO in Admin Config

If you upgraded to zc 1.5 (vs a fresh install) there was a glitch with Ultimate SEO URL showing in the admin, which can be found on this thread here:

http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?194441-errors-in-admin-from-ultimate-seo-urls&highlight=ultimate+seo+admin

Otherwise, on a fresh 1.5 install, it has worked right away on my demo tests and on one of my sister's sites I put it on.

But listen to Schoolboy.

As for myself, I am on the fence whether to use URL rewriting when I upgrade my main site to 1.5. But if I do go that route, I'll use Ultimate SEO, as it seems to me the easiest install and very reliable.

Except...I recall one demo site blowing-up with Ultimate SEO URL and Ask a Question mod. I'll have to revisit that issue to confirm.

EDIT: Ultimate SEO URL has a long support thread here somewhere. But the developer is long gone so everyone is pretty much on their own with it.

OK, SEO is not that much usefull but I'm upgrading from a previous ZC. I'm building the new site, with a new look, from ground with a 1.5 fresh install on which I apply quite every plugins I had and some new ones. Of course I have some references on search engines. Wouldn't I loose all my references upgrading without getting back the SEO I had ?

Re: Don't see Ultimate SEO in Admin Config

We recently (6 weeks ago) took on an established site that was using Ultimate SEO URL's. The very first thing we did was REMOVE that junk, and upgrade the site to 1.5 .

We then set up all the necessary Google Tools (webmaster toolkit, analytics, sitemaps-xml, etc...) and asked Google to remove their index of all pages on the site.

Within 4 or 5 days, Google had re-indexed the site, using zencart's core URL's.

The client is now focusing of getting GOOD CONTENT into the site, and managing their relationship with Google via proper XML sitemaps, robots.txt, and webmaster tools management and things are looking good.

These URL "re-write" mods serve no valuable purpose - and are more likely to introduce problems. Look at the support thread for Ultimate SEO URL's... over SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND VIEWS !!! ... suggesting that more than half a million problems have been encountered with that mod...

To me that's a sure-fire sign to avoid it like the plague...

Re: Don't see Ultimate SEO in Admin Config

These modules create a .htaccess file in the root folder of the ZC installation.

Did you delete this .htaccess file ?

Be careful, many SUB-folders contain legitimate .htaccess files and these must remain.

In native ZC, there is no root .htaccess file, and there is no need to have a root .htaccess file.

Don't use this module. In fact, don't use any "SEO URL" module. They are not necessary and they have no effect on SEO.

As you have discovered, they cause more problems than they solve.
