Category New Products Box shows inactive products

I just noticed that on my Category pages, the central New Products box is showing inactive products from inactive subcategories. The items are out of stock, marked red/disabled, yet they still show up. Clicking them brings up "Sorry, the product was not found."

I think every one that shows up is on sale through Salemaker, though I'm not 100% sure of that.

I'm using Zen Cart 1.3.9h. I found a few posts for the same issue regarding 1.3.7 & 1.3.8, that said to modify /includes/modules/new_products.php to add in a check for " and p.products_status = 1 " however this is already in the 1.3.9 code. Any help would be appreciated.

Compare a clean v1.3.9h copy of:
/includes/modules/new_products.php

to your copy on the server:
/includes/modules/new_products.php

or in:
/includes/modules/your_template_dir/new_products.php

if you are using templates and overrides correctly ...
