Additional Photo Showing Up In Wrong Place

I want to use additional photos in places, so I have the Layout / Show Additional Product Photos set to 1. But there's an additional photo cropping up where I don't want it, and I can't seem to get rid of it. I deleted the original photo, and I entered the url of the unwanted photo in the same box and then clicked Delete Image. That deleted both photos...but when I re-entered the correct one, the second one reappeared. How can I get rid of the second photo (which I want to use elsewhere)?

Additional images are selected by zencart automatically recognising an images BASE NAME,,, and then assuming that other images with similar BASE NAMES are associated with the main image.

There is a TUTORIAL showing you how this works, and what to do with image names to prevent the problem you are experiencing.

So I have to change the name of the second photo from the-little-princess to something totally different? How, then, do I deliberately add additional photos? I thought it would just be a matter of going through and entering the url for each one, but apparently not?

Okay, I changed the-little-princess.jpg to the-princess.jpg and that solved the first problem. But...I renamed and uploaded 4 images for the Bionic Blox Kit (bionic-blox1.jpg - bionic-blox4.jpg) and only the one I specified when I created the listing is showing up. The names are sufficiently similar, I would have thought, that it would pick them up if it's going solely by similar names (which doesn't seem to be a very good way to do it, imho). So I'm baffled.

What do you mean by "URL"?

There is no URL involved...

The naming convention goes something like this:

myproductpicture.jpg ( Image BASE NAME is myproductpicture )
myproductpicture_01.jpg (Zencart recognises this as the FIRST additional image)
myproductpicture_02.jpg (Zencart recognises this as the SECOND additional image)
myproductpicture_03.jpg (Zencart recognises this as the THIRD additional image)
... and so on. There is technically no limit (except what common sense dictates)

Not url...the photo name, taken from my hard drive. But...it didn't work, as stated above.

Another thing I just noticed is that it's showing the products model name in the page title (blue strip at the top of the page, since apparently I'm not very good at naming things properly). I set Product Type / Edit Layout / Show Product Model in Meta-Tags to 0; is that not the right place to make it go away?

Your issue is where you are putting the hyphens in: bionic-blox1.jpg (and that you are not using a MAIN BASE NAME)

This will solve your problem:

bionicblox_01.jpg
bionicblox_02.jpg
bionicblox_03.jpg

Renaming the photos worked...but bionic-blox should have been a perfectly acceptable base name. I assume you're taking about having one without numbers, and the rest having them. But using hyphens should not matter.

I hope that in the next revision, this will be changed so that a person can specify whatever name they choose and manually upload it; that would have avoided the last two hours of fighting with it. ;-)

Any ideas on the second issue I mentioned, getting the model number out of the header?

I doubt that this idea would be supported... the current system is extremely efficient and time-saving - particularly for stores (like the ones we manage) with tens of thousands of products.

These stores have strict SKU systems, with images named after the SKU.

We use features in programs like ToTal Image Converter and PhotoShop to do BATCH re-naming across thousands of images.

To do this MANUALLY the way you are suggesting would be an absolute nightmare and take MONTHS. Our systems take under an hour for sites with 30,000 to 40,000 images.

NO... we do NOT want a manual process!

If you follow the RULES for the naming conventions, then you will not have problems...
