Is 12 leaves OK?

Hi! Does anyone know if buying from 12 leaves is ok? I'm worried they're in Russia. I would never consider Temp monster and there is no other templates that are nice. Most are so cheezy looking.

I was thinking about starting with 12 leaves Elegance template and then paying someone on elance to tweak it for me. Does that sound ok to do?

Or would it work to just show a photo of that Elegance template to someone I hire and they can recreate it the way I want?

Thanks

Take a look at this one http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1429 I'm sure with a bit of styling you'd get the same look.

Re: Is 12 leaves OK?

We have used several 12leaves templates, and found them to be very competent and safe. Some of them have bits of "bespoke" coding, but nothing that destroys ZC behaviour in the way that Template Monster templates do.

We have not used any on ZC 1.5... all our installs were on ZC 1.3.9

Re: Is 12 leaves OK?

Thanks. My hosting co. told me not to upgrade to 1.5 he said it was less secure and I would lose alot of functions. So I'll take his advice.

Thanks for the replies!!

I am curious to know which functions you'd be losing ... IMHO it's better trust zencart (read this forum, and the people who developped it) about it, rather than a hosting co.

Your first order of business IMO, is to find a new host. The claim that Zencart 1.5.0 is less secure than previous versions and offers fewer functions is simply stupid.

Re: Is 12 leaves OK?

It is true that there are mods that have not been upgraded to v1.5.0 yet, so that part is not exactly wrong, just shortsighted. But "less secure"???

Re: Is 12 leaves OK?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what does IMHO stand for? I did not ask details about what exactly I would be losing. I didn't have the time at that moment, but I sure will ask him. He is the best hosting co. I have ever had and would not trade him for the world. He goes above and beyond and even called me on my cell a few times to inform me of stuff I needed to know and do. I paid a lady on Odesk install a join mailing list button and she failed to check her work so it was broken and my customers could not use it, & it made my site & me looked bad and she didn't care but he fixed it for free right away, within 5 minutes of me asking. So I wouldn't trade for anything. I have been through at least 5 hosts that are a joke or could barely speak English. He is Geekhost by the way. Maybe I just misunderstood what he said since we were in the middle of somthing when he said it but he did say I didnt need to upgrade. He could have charged me for the work and done it anyway but he didnt so I trust him.

Re: Is 12 leaves OK?

IMHO = in my humble opinion

Perhaps it was just a misunderstanding, and he was referring to mods, as Glenn pointed out.
Anyhow my understanding is if you have zencart 1.39h you are ok, and you may still keep it, if you have a lower version you definetely have to upgrade.

Re: Is 12 leaves OK?

I'll be upgrading to 1.5 soon from 1.3.9h. I want to keep abreast of further Zencart upgrades and do not wish to face an even greater upgrade process in the future.

Other than the mod you mention above, is your Zencart heavily modified? Alot of the mods are now catching up with 1.5 and you can see a list (but not necessarily a complete list of mods that work with 1.5) here:

Re: Is 12 leaves OK?

No I don't think its heavily modified. I have a few add ons but I didnt do them myself so I dont know for sure. I wish I had the time to learn to do it myself. I have 139, eventually I will upgrade but I'm not worrying about it right now. I will redesign it one day soon and do it then.
