Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

bumba000:

I tend to not trust very much so I prefer to download from zc.
So...
Is it being a member since 2007 or having made 2,435 posts that qualifies as untrustworthy?
Most items in the Plugins have a github repository. It IS the thing of Open Source.

Re: Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

The version that I downloaded was added to zencart just an hour or so before I downloaded it.
Bear in mind that when you download something that recent, it's likely an update for the current (or prior) release - not your version, which is two versions back. You might try Internal version: 7, but I really have no idea how well those older versions work, I just know that the latest version works with the latest Zen Cart.

I wasn't saying I didn't trust the poster. I was talking about downloading zencart plugins from places other than from zencart. Whoever's running the show here today I expect vets all code for malicious stuff before letting it go live for download.

Thanks

It did say 1.5.6, 1.5.7 and 1.5.8 when I downloaded it. I see now it no longer says it works with 1.5.6. The readme with the package states "if you're using pre-156, please use an earlier version of this plugin". Guess I'll be removing those files and see if i can find a set that supports 1.5.6, or finish the upgrade to 1.5.8 already. lol

Thanks,
John

Re: Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

So I removed all files from the V3.5 install and then uploaded files from V3.4. I have added the google keys and have the exact same result. I do see a message in the google dashboard. We detected that your site is not verifying reCAPTCHA solutions.

Thanks,
John

Re: Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

Ok. It's working. It looks like some of the template files are 1.5.1. So I added the required changes to contact_us/header_php.php. Fingers crossed it stops the insane amount of spam.

Thank you,
John

Re: Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

Admin: please link this plugin to my Github.

This highlights the problem with the static plugins section. I have several things in there but no way I am going to "release" a new version for some minor change.
Sod's Law says as soon as you upload a new version, you find another problem. Especially with php moving the goalposts on a monthly basis.
So, I don't do that. I spend enough time altruistically providing code to worry about updating things here. For that is Github.

I tried this plugin in the past, and as usual with most plugins, found problems with it and a better way of doing things. So it's on GitHub,

The update here to the original plugin you refer to was nothing more than removing obsolete files. Not an update at all.

The whole mechanism of Plugins needs a complete rethink, now we are down to only a handful of people-interested-in-coding.

And it's perfectly reasonable to distrust stuff outside this site....but also you should distrust from a quality point of view what is in the plugins too, all and sundry have stuffed things in there of very varying quality.

Re: Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

@bumba000 there are anti-spam fixes built in to Zen Cart 1.5.7 (and 1.5.8) that you would get by upgrading.

Hey Scott,
Hope all's well. I started an upgrade to 1.5.8 in early august. It was nearly done when I got sidetracked working with cnc, blacksmith stuff and building a wood furnace. Now I'm behind on making christmas gifts. I'll eventually get the upgrade done. ha ha ha.

Since getting the captcha working yesterday I've received one spam email instead of 50+, so it was totally worth the hassle I put myself through.

I'm pretty sure I'll finish the upgrade soon. ;)

Thanks,
John

Stop bragging, MacGyver. I'm still trying to master my coffeemaker. :)

Glad it works for you.

Re: Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

I am at......adding '<?php echo recaptcha_get_html(false); ?> . ............ to .........tpl_contact_us_default.php
It says to add .....Add right after the should_be_empty field ..

I don't see the words 'should be empty' in tpl_contact_us_default.php .

what did I miss?

Re: Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

This is what it looks like:

<?php echo zen_draw_input_field($antiSpamFieldName, '', ' size="40" id="CUAS" style="visibility:hidden; display:none;" autocomplete="off"'); ?>

and where does <?php echo recaptcha_get_html(false); ?> go?

Re: Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

Okay I have the module 3.6 plugin and I'm trying to install it in a 1.5.7 setup.

I see the recapcha on my contact us page but I can still send the email fine.
I don't see the right field for tpl_product_reviews_write_default.php to add it in, I don't have antispam in my file.
I added it to my create an account and it still let me create an account
Oddly the ask a question works fine.

The regular contact us is where I'm getting a ton of spam though and really want to get that fixed.

Note, I did not comment those in the file with the keys.

Edit, I had the wrong review TPL but found the right place and it still lets me write the review without doing the captcha

But still the main two aren't working, still getting spam messages because the buttons still work. Any suggestions?

Re: Support Thread for Google reCAPTCHA plugin

Zencart 1.5.8
Google reCAPTCHA CAPTCHA - Version: 3.6
FEC 2.3.0

I am trying to set this captcha up with FEC by Numiniux. All works well except one issue. When I go to the main_page=no_account and you do not fill out the captcha it just refreshes without error message "Please verify that you are not a robot".

If someone could assist me or lead me in the right direction on how to get the error message to display.
