Easy Populate Import not displaying in categories/products

So first post and first time Zen Cart user. website is Synthetic Motorsports. Still finding my way around but I am vary familiar with forum etiquette and have used the FAQ and search function quite a bit already. I installed easy populate and ckeditor last night with filezilla. ckeditor installed fine but Easy Populate did not give me the option to use it in the tools drop down. I can go direct to the easypopulate.php like it was indicated to everyone on the you tube install video.

So I exported the initial database and looked at the headers across the top. pulling my sql database from my previous cart I realigned the columns to match what is in the zen database. After adding a v_products_model (my db didn't have this) and adding the import category (test examples), I imported this csv file which has over 300 items in it. It did not show any errors from the import. When I went back and refreshed the test example category but only 1 of the items shows up.Attachment 10881

I then went and did a second import with only 4 files. Again this imported without error but is not showing up in the test examples category. It wont let me upload the csv but again I matched up the correct columns with the correct header. It shows 5 items in the test examples category but it only display's the one shown above. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Re: Easy Populate Import not displaying in categories/products

Well after tinkering with the data for a couple more hours I figured out what was wrong. I needed to add a 1 in the status field and a date modified field.

Re: Easy Populate Import not displaying in categories/products

Remove that version of Easy Populate and install chadderuski's Version 4.

This version is not (yet) in the plugins area, but there is a link to GITHUB. Find the thread for Easy Populate V 4.

Re: Easy Populate Import not displaying in categories/products

No model field in record

Easy Populate (regardless of version) requires each product record to have a UNIQUE MODEL NUMBER, because this is used by EP as a reference to populate the database.

You seem not to have given your products UNIQUE MODEL NUMBERS, so EP is not importing anything.

I have a WIKI article on Easy Populate 1.2.5.4. and while some of it is redundant info, much of it remains relevant.

Re: Easy Populate Import not displaying in categories/products

Irrespective of what data your supplier sends you, the file format for upload to zencart using EP must be in accordance with the zencart database tables/fields, and the requirements for loading EP.

At a quick glance, it would appear you have sufficient data in that feed to use in an EP upload.

Re: Easy Populate Import not displaying in categories/products

The EasyPopulate module has SAMPLE files for you to look at. Open one of these in OpenOffice, and see how it is structured.

Re: Easy Populate Import not displaying in categories/products

Your supplier is providing a PATH to the images, so you will have to first SCRAPE them off the supplier's site.

You cannot put THEIR PATH into the EP file. Zencart does not work that way. Zencart assumes the images are all on YOUR SERVER.

So... how do you go scrape them?

SEE: http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?204151-Using-external-images&p=1174593#post1174593

Once scraped, you FTP them to the images folder on your server.

Re: Easy Populate Import not displaying in categories/products

type wget -i c:\textfile.txt (replace textfile.txt with the name of the textfile you created)

let it run till it downloads all your images. (They will be saved into the bin folder, because that's where WGET is located, so later you can move them to another folder).

Greetings did all the above wget down loaded and cannot find the folder anywhere not in bin with wget any ideas where this is downloading to?

CNVELD/1018.JPG
CNVELD/10/101/1019.JPG

Each BACKSLASH is telling the PHP that a sub-folder is involved.

If the images are all in the MAIN IMAGES FOLDER, you need to REMOVE the "folder names" (CNVELD/ and CNVELD/10/101/) and ONLY have the image name. (10004.JPG)

ALSO... linux is CaSE SenSiTive... and I see you have .JPG .

If the actual images are .jpg (not .JPG) then you must change the case to lower case.

A GENERAL RULE with linux is to keep all folder and file names lower case.

Re: Easy Populate Import not displaying in categories/products

There are folders and sub folders for the images so i put them in the main images folder for zen there are some many i figured it be easy to manage them instead of just dumping images in the images folder since the data files were structured that way and also they came and work in the folders with JPG I thought about that also when I was trying to figure this all out and still am..:P

Not fully able to understand what you are trying to say here, but the procedure is relatively simple.

IF you have a LOT of images, it IS BETTER to put them into SUB-folders in your main " images " folder. This makes them easier to manage and makes the site faster too,

SO... let's say you are selling T-shirts.

You have thousands of t-shirt images. One-third are RED, one-third are BLUE, one-third are YELLOW.

You will create subfolders in your main images folder like this:

images
|_red

...|_redshirt1.JPG
...|_redshirt2.JPG
...|_redshirt3.JPG
...|_redshirt4.JPG

|_blue
...|_blueshirt1.JPG
...|_blueshirt2.JPG
...|_blueshirt3.JPG
...|_blueshirt4.JPG

|_yellow
...|_yellowshirt1.JPG
...|_yellowshirt2.JPG
...|_yellowshirt3.JPG
...|_yellowshirt4.JPG

Then, in your SPREADSHEET for Easy Populate, in the v_products_images column you would have:

red/redshirt1.JPG
red/redshirt2.JPG
red/redshirt3.JPG
red/redshirt4.JPG
blue/blueshirt1.JPG
blue/blueshirt2.JPG
blue/blueshirt3.JPG
blue/blueshirt4.JPG
yellow/yellowshirt1.JPG
yellow/yellowshirt2.JPG
yellow/yellowshirt3.JPG
yellow/yellowshirt4.JPG

The above data gets written to the database... and is stored there.

When a product loads into a web page, the PHP structures the FIRST PART of the image path, then gets the database reference for the image's ultimate location and name.

The php will build the IMAGE SOURCE as:

<img src="images/ ... then it fetches what's in the DATABASE to make up the rest of the call... red/redshirt1.JPG

... so the resultant call code is <img src="images/red/redshirt1.JPG" />

(Of course it also puts in things like alt tags too, but I omit them here for clarity.)
