Anyone use them in oder to be able to accept credit cards online? Seem pretty cheap with not set up fees.

You get a virtual terminal which functions much like the swipe machine except you enter the details online instead of swiping. You can use this with the offline credit card module (though no longer recommended due to security issues).

With WPP, your customers using CC for payment can enter their CC information without leaving your site vs being taken to the PP site for payment with PP Standard. WPP does require you to provide PP with a quarterly PCI scan certificate.

The rates advertised are not all inclusive when you read the fine print:

All things considered, Auth.net fees for us are less than WPP monthly fee of $30. That's before you start talking about the individual CC processing fees.

PayPal's fees are exactly as you see published. Nothing hidden.
Other processors have tons of hidden fees or varying discount rates (fees) based on what kind of card the customer used to pay with. PayPal insulates you from that by using their flat rate structure. In that way they at least try to set themselves up as very merchant-friendly.

thing is i thing consumers have a skeptic approach to paypal. I think getting a merchant account would bring in more sales. But going from PayPal Standard to Pay Pal Pro its still the same process basically for the customers standpoint isnt it?

Customers would NOT know that you're using PayPal Payments Pro, because it simply looks like any credit-card-processing page would. They'll simply see input fields on your site for them to enter their credit card details. Just like they would see with authnet or any other credit-card-processing-gateway service would look when cards are processed directly on your site.

The fact that PayPal will also be offered alongside (Express Checkout must also be enabled) would be irrelevant and shouldn't be any deterrent at all. In fact, it would encourage people who DO use PayPal already to actually use their PayPal account to make the payment instead of bothering with the hassle of entering their credit card numbers.

So, using PayPal Payments Pro is a good choice for both kinds of scenarios. It removes all reasons for the customer to object to your choice of payment processing options.

well the trouble is. I cant accept them on my site because it is a shared host and it wouldnt be pci compliant from what i am told, so i would need to have them check out on the payment processors page.
