Ok, I am stumped after MUCH study and work to get this done, please help...

I am, like others in the past attempting to learn how to embed flash video in my main page.php html. We have installed ckeditor and I am using the url file path leading to /includes/templates/MYTEMPLATE/jscript/jscript_swfobject.js as the url in the flashplayer embedding popup in the WYSWYG editor AND by embedding the html code several different ways to get this to work and I am failing miserably. I have used SWFObject Generator 2.0 to create the .js file that is loaded in the jscript folder of my template. I have also made sure that the video I want to use is in my template/images folder and is a flv video. I am stumped at this point.

Can someone take a look at the codes I have here and tell me what I am doing wrong so I can better understand what I am doing? My results can be viewed at www.syntheticmotorsports.com

Here is the embedding code in the page right now that only gives me a "white box" where the video should be, no flash content substituted where it should be or anything. This is the code that the ckeditor is generating:

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.syntheticmotorsports.com/includes/templates/sms_template_1/jscript/jscript_swfobject.js" /><embed pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" quality="high" src="http://www.syntheticmotorsports.com/includes/templates/sms_template_1/jscript/jscript_swfobject.js" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></object>

This is the coding from /includes/templates/MYTEMPLATE/jscript/jscript_swfobject.js file.

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <head> <title></title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.syntheticmotorsports.com/includes/templates/sms_template_1/jscript/jscript_swfobject.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> swfobject.registerObject("", "9.0.0"); </script> </head> <body> <div> <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="650" height="400" id="EFI Live" name="EFI Live Custom Tuning Now Available From Synthetic Motorsports" align="left"> <param name="movie" value="efilive.swf" /> <param name="play" value="true" /> <param name="loop" value="true" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="scale" value="noborder" /> <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> <param name="seamlesstabbing" value="true" /> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /> <param name="allownetworking" value="none" /> <param name="flashvars" value="http://www.syntheticmotorsports.com/includes/templates/sms_template_1/images/EFI_Live_Video.flv" /> <!--[if !IE]>--> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="efilive.swf" width="650" height="400" align="left"> <param name="play" value="true" /> <param name="loop" value="true" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="scale" value="noborder" /> <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> <param name="seamlesstabbing" value="true" /> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /> <param name="allownetworking" value="none" /> <param name="flashvars" value="http://www.syntheticmotorsports.com/includes/templates/sms_template_1/images/EFI_Live_Video.flv" /> <!--<![endif]--> <title>

Also, I have attempted to use the WYSWYG ckeditor URL leading to the swfobject.js file alone, the image movie file alone and a combination of both, etc. I have also tried independent scripts I have found in other threads here on the forum and have had no luck at all.

Um ... you posted the code in your /includes/templates/MYTEMPLATE/jscript/jscript_swfobject.js file ... but that should be javascript, not HTML. You posted a whole page of HTML code.
If that's really what you've got in that jscript_swfobject.js file, then you're absolutely going to have problems.

Re: Ok, I am stumped after MUCH study and work to get this done, please help...

Ok, let me explain. I am new to attempting to embed flashplayer videos. All I want is a video on my home page that isn't hosted on youtube. So I asked how to do that and got zero response to that thread. So I begin going through the threads on this forum about the subject as well as going through a CRAPLOAD of tutorials and information on Adobe.com attempting to learn. Where everything led me to was creating files with swfobject generator and simply renaming it .js from .html when uploading the file to the the jscript folder in mytemplate directory.

Now, I am fine with doing whatever needs to be done. But why does it have to be so hard to even come up with the right directions, instructions or input on how to make this work?

Anyone want to enlighten me on why the video I converted to flashplayer will not load into the define_main_page.php with the flashplayer button/icon in the ckeditor in the first place? I moved the video file to the root directory for more testing, when I use the flashplayer icon to put in the url https://www.syntheticmotorsports.com/EFI_Live_Video.flv, it doesn't work, if I try to use /EFI_Live_Video.flv it doesn't work.

I don't care if someone wants to call me stupid or whatever, just do it get it over with and PLEASE explain how to get this thing loaded and working.

Re: Ok, I am stumped after MUCH study and work to get this done, please help...

It's been a long time since I did anything with Flash, so I wasn't posting to get into giving direct instructions.
I was only pointing out an observation of one thing that looked to be very wrong, as an aid to helping you narrow down the cause of the problems you're having.

As far as using ckeditor to embed flash or other html code, I think I'd be inclined to switch to plain-text mode (aka "source" mode) to edit the raw HTML directly when working with stuff like this. Maybe ckeditor can do flash fine, but I've never done that. I usually only use it for doing bold/italics etc. Everything else I do by hand as raw HTML, but that's just my preference. But it does mean I'm not the right one to advise on how to do it in wysiwyg mode.

You now posted a link to the .flv video you're working with. When I try to download and play that video, it shows up as 8K, and no video content in it. Now, maybe the download was just bad, but I was trying to play it on my PC in order to be sure it actually is playable. And thus far it doesn't appear to be playable. So that might be a contributor to the problem too.

Just my 2-cents

Re: Ok, I am stumped after MUCH study and work to get this done, please help...

Thank you, that is at least something. I usually hand build the html and then input it into the source side of the WYSWYG editor. I was just trying to figure out exactly why my video won't load. I like the idea of being able to use swfobject generator, but I have no idea where to put it in the directories or how to set my code up for the file once I have a working video. I want to be able to have the substitute content description when the video isn't working for obvious reasons.

But yours is the first help I have received and I am getting a little frustrated. I have been able to figure out most things with this cart, with help finding the right variables here and there, but I am brand new at trying to embed video with flash.

Can I ask a bigger-picture question?
What purpose is this video content aimed at accomplishing? (I'm not AT ALL implying it's wrong ... I'm wanting to understand your goals here.)
Where are you intending to put video on your site? Just the home page, or others too, and why?
How often do you plan to change this video or add more video clips?
Is there any particular reason why you've selected Flash specifically?

Re: Ok, I am stumped after MUCH study and work to get this done, please help...

Good questions and I do not mind answering them. My business partner and I are the only two working on this project, we are building it because the cart functionality on our vBulletin forum is antiquated at best. He is handling product uploads, etc while I take care of template design, etc.

Anyway, he asked me to "spice it up a bit" with some kind of "graphics" to make it stand out. That being said, I decided to start things off with a compilation of drag racing videos (that I am still working with to include more: you can check out an example here: http://youtu.be/3G5IN7GEgBQ ) We sell a lot of performance products but we want to bring attention to the EFI Live tuning specifically while bringing the contact information for each of us to the front of things at the same time. We only plan to do this on the home page for the time being, but in the future we will be considering some kind of different header that will be more than a static image so that we can do sonething similar to sites like https://www.bankspower.com But for now, since I know just enough about coding to be dangerous I am only attempting to keep things as simple and turn key as possible. Once I learn more about how to build a header like mentioned then having it sitewide would be the goal. We do not plan to change it very often at all, maybe once every six months or so, we just want something a little more one the home page to attract attention and be a little more interactive.

That being said, I do NOT want to embed a youtube video, we want the video to loop and autoplay and we do not want it to stop and leave options to watch other videos that may take the prospective customer's attention away from our site or what they are looking for.

One more thing, please forgive the questions on the simple stuff, I am a mechanic by trade, but also a disabled veteran, I can't work as a mechanic any longer so I have had to resort to being an online parts supplier, but I would also like to learn as much as I can about doing these things myself so that I can handle them in the future, I do not like just paying someone to build something FOR me...

Thanks again for the response.

Re: Ok, I am stumped after MUCH study and work to get this done, please help...

Agreed on the desire to keep YOUR content on YOUR site, not on YouTube ... unless you're trying to build a YouTube presence where you're putting up content there regularly.

However, when putting up videos on YouTube, you can mark them private so only those with the URL can visit them, and then tell your website the URL to show. And when you get the "embed code" from YouTube, the advanced options let you tick a box that says not to show ads and related videos etc. So, there are a few ways to still do it and get more professional results than what you might have seen done by others.

That said, there's nothing wrong with skipping YouTube especially in this case.

Thanks, see that is something else I couldn't figure out, when the video is embedded via youtube, those pesky google adsense ads popup on it, but I couldn't find where to disable them. I definitely don't want google ads on my parts site. When I see an online store with google ads it makes me wonder why they built a store in the first place. I will play with the youtube video for now while I do some more studying

Ok, I checked out https://developers.google.com/youtube/player_parameters and figured out how to get it to loop for now, so I at least have something to work with for now while I play with it some more.

Thanks again for helping...

The following article may be of help if you decide you need to back to the flash route instead:

That is what I couldn't find before, thanks, that should make it much easier to know where to put things and make them work properly,

thanks again for the help!
