Ultimate SEO v3 (and v2.200) [Support Thread]

lat9:

John, I'm not seeing that behavior. The breadcrumb home-link I'm seeing is ..

Hey Lat9. Just wondering if you've had a chance to look into this. I've been through all the files from your mod and just can't figure where it'd be coming from. I also messaged you here on zc with ftp credentials if you wanted to have a look, but haven't heard back from you. I was just looking around again and still... nothing.

Guess I'll keep checking back.

Thank you,
John

I've been swamped with other activities and, as indicated above, am unable to reproduce this issue on an as-shipped zc222 using the responsive classic template.

I figured you were busy with other stuff. I know you said you can't reproduce it, so I was offering access to a place for you to see where it's happening. I get it though. Thanks for getting back to me.

Best,
John

Re: Ultimate SEO v3 (and v2.200) [Support Thread]

So not being able to figure out an actual solution, I did put together a band-aid. So far so good as I haven't found a way to break it. Maybe this can help someone else who runs into the same issue.

In includes/templates/myrcclone/common/tpl_main_page.php I modified the breadcrumb output...

original

<!-- bof  breadcrumb -->
<?php if (!$breadcrumb->isEmpty() && (DEFINE_BREADCRUMB_STATUS == '1' || (DEFINE_BREADCRUMB_STATUS == '2' && !$this_is_home_page))) { ?>
    <div id="navBreadCrumb"><?php echo $breadcrumb->trail(BREAD_CRUMBS_SEPARATOR); ?></div>
<?php } ?>
<!-- eof breadcrumb -->

band-aid

<!-- bof  breadcrumb -->

<?php if (!$breadcrumb->isEmpty() && (DEFINE_BREADCRUMB_STATUS == '1' || (DEFINE_BREADCRUMB_STATUS == '2' && !$this_is_home_page))) {
        $clean_breadcrumbs = $breadcrumb->trail(BREAD_CRUMBS_SEPARATOR);
        if(strpos($breadcrumb->trail(BREAD_CRUMBS_SEPARATOR),'//.html')){
            $clean_breadcrumbs = preg_replace('/\/\/\.html/', '', $breadcrumb->trail(BREAD_CRUMBS_SEPARATOR));
        }
    ?>
    <div id="navBreadCrumb"><?php echo $clean_breadcrumbs; ?></div>
<?php } ?>
<!-- eof breadcrumb -->

Best regards,
John

Re: Ultimate SEO v3 (and v2.200) [Support Thread]

I have a question regarding USU best practice...if in your page description you have product page links to other similar products should those links be the links generated by ZenCart or should they be updated to the urls generated by USU? For SEO purposes I believe using the USU links would likely help organic search results to perform better, however, if you should change the product page title in the future I see where this could break those USU links.

Also my products are specified by their size. For example an 8.5x11 brochure would be in the product title as "Brochure 8-1/2x11" and USU generates the example as brochures-812x11-p-302.html...I am wondering if I should update my product title to reflect a cleaner USU link regarding the sizes or can this be done inside the USU module automatically such as brochures-8_1-2-x-11.

If I do so then I am guessing I will need to do 301 redirects for the old USU to the new one?

Best,
Goldbuckle

For your first question, the in-product links to other products on the site should use the USU format. You can more easily accomplish this by using the ShortCodes for Zen Cart plugin (https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2394).

If you change an item's title, make sure that you've enabled USU's Enable automatic redirects? feature. That will send the 301 headers for the "old name" and redirect to the new-name format URL.
