Can Per Item shipping be in addition to USPS shipping?

We have the USPS and UPS mods installed. We'd like to add an additional $0.25 charge PER ITEM (pick charge). If we installed and activated Per Item mod, would that override the USPS and UPS mods or would it simply add the additional $0.25 to every item and still include the other shipping fee?

It would be in addition to the USPS and UPS mods; if a customer chose that option, they'd only be charged $0.25 for the shipping if they have 1 item in their cart.

OK I see, so when it's activated it becomes an option for the customer. Is there a way to make the 25 Cent additional charge per item automatic on all orders?

So when a customer is checking out, with 2 items for example, and I'll call this 25 cent thing a "Pick Fee", they'll see

Subtotal: XX
Tax: XX
Pick Free: $0.50
Shipping (usps): XX
TOTAL: XX

Is that doable somehow?

I'm thinking I would just increase the price of each item $.25. Customers (like me, anyway) don't like to see nickel-and-dime fees added to the order. Reminds us of the telephone companies.
