funky font after upgrade, and some links are missing in admin nav panel

Hello.
I did the upgrade from 1.3.9h to 1.5.0. I did a database upgrade only. I am doing it on testing server so everything seems to work, besides couple odd moments.

  1. some parts of font from product description showing up with some funky letters that not exist in English alphabet.
  2. I had several addons installed on previous version. Links from that addons are missing now in admin navigation bar. Some of that addons if i uninstall the sql patch and run again they reappeare, but some wont show up no matter what: wishlist, super orders, ultimate cross sales, cash report - those i cant make them reappeare.
What can i do with these?

Re: funky font after upgrade, and some links are missing in admin nav panel

  1. Your old store was probably in iso-8859-1 (aka latin1) character-set, but the default v1.5.0 files set the store to use utf8 by default. Putting yours back to iso-8859-1 should solve the problem: http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?313-should-i-convert-my-store-from-iso-8859-1-to-utf8

  2. Addons that haven't been rewritten for the new menu system used in v1.5.0 won't show in the new menu. If you haven't installed the updated versions of those addons, you'll need to do that. If there aren't new versions yet, you'll want to help people in upgrading them.

Re: funky font after upgrade, and some links are missing in admin nav panel

Thank you so much for your help, that fixed the font. Ill add couple more odd little problems i am having with my upgrade here if you don't mind.

when customer trying to delete an entry in his address book, or when admin logging in as a customer and trying to delete an entry in customer's address book, it doesn't work. click on delete refreshes the page with same returned question: "Are you sure you would like to delete the selected address from your address book?".

Re: funky font after upgrade, and some links are missing in admin nav panel

Your templates contain code that generate HTML <form> tags, and those need to have special parameters and fields added in order to work safely on the internet. In v150 there were things added to ensure the proper safety. But if your upgrade skipped those things either in the default template files or your custom template files didn't get upgraded thoroughly, or if you installed addons that use old code from old addons designed for older versions, then any of those could cause the symptoms you describe.

I'd start by comparing all your /includes/modules/ and all /includes/functions/ files with original Zen Cart files. Then compare all /includes/templates/template_default files with originals. Then compare all your /includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE_NAME/ against template_default versions of the same.

If that's not enough, do a complete comparison: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshoot_-_Diagnosing_Obscure_Issues

Re: funky font after upgrade, and some links are missing in admin nav panel

Thank you for posting the link to change it back! I was in the middle of posting a question about an "easy fix" for that issue when I ran across the answer! WHEW! I was worried I was going to have to edit 2000 products to find all the oddball characters. :yuck: Changing back to the latin1 CHARSET worked like a charm.

I love this forum!

Blessings,
