Took over site, moving to another host, missing information to make this go smooth

Hi, I took over a site and am trying to move hosts. I have read all of the faq's and followed them. I do still have access to the old host, but not the old webmaster. I have backed up my site using the site backup tool in cpanel. I have backed up my databases in MySQL and in phpadmin. I had no trouble in importing and setting up the new databases.
One issue is that the old webmaster was a reseller and has re-directed or made inaccessible the zen cart admin page, and customized the cpanel with certain restrictions, so I can see the data and the site living there, but cannot see all of the configurations server side.

Also, my backups are from cpanel, I am moving to vdeck

According to the faq, you should install using the same version of zen cart as your old install. I can't log in to the admin to see what version he used. I was able to log in once before I took over, and remember it was 1.3.? and it said there was a newer version available. Is there some config file or place to look for a patch that may contain the version? I see a lot of licensing data from zen cart, but nothing that says specifically which version. I have v139h currently, and that may be part of my issue.

I am new to zen cart and unfamiliar with its structure, but he has 5 separate databases. How do I know which one to connect with during the clean install? I have looked at the configure.php in several locations, and there are 3 different DB_prefix and 3 different databases listed in the configure.php files.

I also do not know to which directory he installed the store, as zen cart advised, he removed the zen cart folder and install files.

On my new host, I have followed the tutorial for a clean install, and that has been successful several times, though I am not sure if I am connecting to the correct db.

I then followed the faq on moving to another server and have renamed my admin folder the same as my old host, and the problem comes in when I upload the files to the new host, still don't know if I am connecting to the correct db.I get internal server errors and 500 error. Also, instead of my completed home page, I am taken to the zen cart template page "You have successfully installed Zen Cart" and my admin log is the demo template.

Also, since I backed up the site, I have tried to restore by a. ftp my backup .tar to my new host, and using Archive Manager, unzipped to the new host. and by b. uploading the unzipped files through ftp.The site on both hosts is in the public_html folder,

I also have a sql user that is the only user to one of the db's, i can see their user name at my old hosts cpanel, but have no idea what the password is. I haven't found it yet in the configure files. The db name and user name are exactly the same, and I have a feeling this user's credentials are coded into some config file, and if I create this "new" user on my new db and give them a different password, i am afraid it will cause errors.

I have been trying to deal with my new host with these issues, but I can't seem to get much farther than the new install.
I had uploaded my backup files, got the internal server error, contacted them and explained what I was trying to do and what I had already done, they wrote me back 'There, fixed!' But, alas, it is not. They went through and deleted most the files I had uploaded, left some, I was able to login to the admin and see it was not the template, but the configured admin page.

But now, my home page looks incomplete...k a t r i n a s b o x . c o m It is part of the home page, and part of the template. It looks like someone started creating a page, and this is as far as they got.

I am going to try and start uploading all of my old site data that was deleted by host, and try again

Thanks for all of you help
Jeremiah

Re: Took over site, moving to another host, missing information to make this go smooth

I'm pretty confused.

First, you can look in includes/version.php to see the version number.

You started talking about one Zencart installation, then later mentioned 5 databases and 3 databases mentioned in the configure.php files. Zencart can only use one database, and only has two configure.php files, so ...?

Seeing the "You have successfully installed Zen Cart" page almost always means that the path information in includes/configure.php is wrong.

What you're seeing at that URL now is the default template.

Re: Took over site, moving to another host, missing information to make this go smooth

Stevesh,

Thank you for answering so quickly and sorry for the confusion...as far as the version confusion...on the old host I couldn't access the admin panel, so didn't know which version of zen cart was loaded there, and the faq's said when moving, use the same version as yor old host. When I said I am currently using 1.39h, I meant that was the version that I loaded on the new host and was trying to get my zen cart to work. All of the other forums had been saying to log in to your admin to see what version you were using, and I didn't have access to that on my old host, so you telling me to look at version.php helped a lot, thank you. I was able to find that on the old host.
Confusion on databases: This is the first that I've used zen cart, and when I logged into the old host, he had 5 databases set up, so I thought they were all being used by zen cart, but then you said zen cart only uses one db. So that helped, too.
The confusion where you said I was talking about 5 db's then 3 db's....when I was looking through some of the configure files, one was configured to one db, and another file had two db's defined, hence the 3 db's.

I now have zen cart ALMOST ready. Thanks to you, I can now view my homepage, but when I click on any links, I receive 404 page not found errors. However, if I put my site into Maintenance Mode and restrict so that only my ip address can view, I can click on all of the pages and all of the links work, but when I take it out of Maintenance, back to 404 errors. Is this an .htaccess issue? I do not have a .htaccess file in my public_html root. There was one on my old host, but if I try to use that and place it in the public_html root, I get 500 internal server error and my home page is then not accessible..
I contacted my hosting company about the 404 errors and said there was a problem with a script and to contact the vendor. I don't know which script or where to find it to look at...
Please and thank you..

A stock Zencart installation doesn't have an .htaccess file in the root directory, but maybe the previous owner had installed a URL-rewriting mod. A link to the site would help.
