What considered to be a good parse time?

After customer types login information and hit the login button, my page parse time is the following:

Parse Time: 6.874 - Number of Queries: 911 - Query Time: 3.86002779839

Almost 4 sec seems a bit too long. I would like to know if this is something that I should try to reduce or it is normal and I should not worry about it.

All the other pages are under 1 sec.

At the time of testing my internet download speed was 18mbps upload speed was 3.5mbps

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

If you go to the numinix website and click the demo link for the FEC mod, you can actullay try out how their installed system works. On the demo every page works very fast, almost instantly you are on the next page. I wish they would have the parse time enabled so I could see the numer of queries.
I wonder if the old checkout system still functions together with the new one somehow and that is why my login takes so long?

Any ideas?

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

Further reading about slow checkout issues, I found out that the shipping modules are taking time, since they are retrieving information from different servers.
This makes sence, since the only slow page on my website is right after customer login, right before the shipping options will show up.

I turned off all of my shipping modules and the page came up instantly. So, there is the answer.

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

Now it's time to turn them back on one by one and find the culprit. Those servers are on some very fast backbones and should not be doing what you describe.

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

Could you peek in your Zen Cart Admin in the Tools ... Server Info ... and see what your Load speeds are for your site?

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

Yes, I did one by one and see which one is the slow one. All of them had almost exactly the same time the server spent with.

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

We had similar issues this past week that we tried to blame on a server move.

Instead we found FEDEX to be the culprit that we accepted we must live with. Less than quarter second parse times with Fedex disabled increased to 5-10 seconds with an occasional 18 seconds when Fedex shipping was enabled. Just checked.... 1st attempt Fedex ON = 18 seconds. Fedex OFF = 0.1 seconds

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

Is it possible to peek at your site so we can perhaps test some of the pages and parse times? :lookaroun

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

RixStix, can you please do the same what Ajeh was asking me to do, so we can compare and see what is going on?
I am using USPS, UPS and FedEx modules. I tested them being off and on individually and all of them took almost the same time to load.

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

I see on Products:
Parse Time: 0.486 - Number of Queries: 168 - Query Time: 0.131368817902

On the Shopping Cart:
Parse Time: 0.130 - Number of Queries: 293 - Query Time: 0.0279829996033

And on Checkout:
Parse Time: 2.994 - Number of Queries: 908 - Query Time: 0.215328692886

What happens if you turn off that 1 page checkout and use the normal checkout that comes with Zen Cart?

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

Using USPS and FEDEX. Parse times turned on.

It'll be my luck that the Fedex times will speed up since others are looking at it :lookaroun

Setup should be identical in both with maybe the exception of handling charge
USPS is the rate V4/IntlV2 plugin.
Primary site is the first in my signature moved to VPS this week
Second site is the 2nd in my signature and in a Shared hosting environment.

Re: What considered to be a good parse time?

I posted a thread on Numinix's website. I hope to get some answer. On their demo page they have USPS module installed and everything goes very fast and smooth.
