Re: Just to be Sure: is this the right way to do Image Prep?

One thing I would mention is that you should plan for the future..by not having 1000s of images in the same folder.

  • ZC supports image subdirectories one deep,
    eg
    /images/vendor_01/image.jpg
    /images/vendor_02_dobbits/image.jpg
    /images/vendor_02_widgets/image.jpg

and think about naming images with something relevant that sorts/displays logically in a folder view like the SKU or model number.

With using IH you can just dump more images in the folder with the same stem name and it will display them automagically:

eg.
/images/vendor_02_widgets/ab-01234.jpg: is the image name as defined in the admin product definition page

and all these others will be displayed too

/images/vendor_02_widgets/ab-01234_01.jpg
/images/vendor_02_widgets/ab-01234_02.jpg
/images/vendor_02_widgets/ab-01234_side_view.jpg
/images/vendor_02_widgets/ab-01234_top_view.jpg

Also didn't see it mentioned in regards to 'batch processing' images, but irfanview is a pretty decent (free) utility.

Point it at your images directory, set your canvas size, background color, crop mode, image centering, etc and let it go.

You can even do bulk transparancy if necessary (I use it on mfg logos, not products).

Quick way to get your main images a consistent size. Then you can use IH4 for admin 'ease'.

I am on step 8 of the new installation (beginner/intermediate) and it says to "upload the contents of the installation_files folder to your store" . Install into images folder?
