How do i find my original files for upgrading?

I am interested in upgrading from 1.39 to 1.51. But I don't know where my original version is. Can I upgrade without knowing the add-on and changes from the original version? back story - I bought a business that uses zen cart, but I am having problems finding the original version. I use EWD hosting and I have checked the files in file manager but I can't find it. can i look at the add-on folder and find how the current version has been changed?

Only if the addons were all files based and did not affect the database

You can obtain official original Zen Cart files for every version of Zen Cart from the official distribution point on SourceForge at: https://www.zen-cart.com/getit

Then you can compare all your files against the original files, and see what's different. There are many text-comparison tools to make that task easy. http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Useful_Tools
