Text Required Attribute Not Working

Hi,

I have text attributes that the customer MUST complete but when I mark the check boxes as such it makes no difference to the checkout - the customer can purchase the products WITHOUT having to enter text.

I have seen the various forum threads and have tried using the suggested fix here but unfortunately it has no effect.

Can anybody else suggest another possible solution

I have a clean install of 1.5.0 - no upgrades
Addons: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO) Config, Easy Populate, hope-free-zencart-template, IntegratedCOWOA_2.1, nivo-slider3.1, sitemapXML (I think that's it!)
