Ultimate SEO URLs

Hi guys.

I have searched the forum but couldnt find the answer to my question. I want to add the Ultimate SEO URLs add on, but want to know if this will have an effect on my sites pages already indexed by search engines? Will the original urls that has been indexed still be working or will my sitemap be completely rewritten?

Thanks for helping.
Regards
Riaan

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Do not use this module.

While these SEO URL modules do absolutely nothing for better position in search engine results (they have NO effect on "seo"), if you want to do safely written URL's then you should use CEON's URI RE-WRITER.

If you think that re-written url's are going to make a difference to your results in search engines, then you will be wasting your time. Many of these modules do more harm than good.

Re: Ultimate SEO URLs

Thanks for the reply. You saved me a lot of trouble, I actually read somewhere on the net that using Ultimate SEO URLs will have an positive effect on my rankings, obviously not true. Will CEON's URI RE-WRITER have an positive effect on my sites search engine results though?

Schoolboy, can you tell me why you feel using CEON's URL rewriter is "safer"?

It operates very differently from the Ultimate SEO module - and it's written by CEON... His work is 100% .

Please don't follow this advice. It is a BAD suggestion.

As I said, there are NO SEO ADVANTAGES to re-writing your zencart URL's. There are SOME ADVANTAGES to user experience, because the URL becomes more understandable to humans, but there is no influence on your search ranking.

Also, if you want re-written URL's then the CEON module is the SAFEST AND MOST RELIABLE module to use.

It operates very differently from the Ultimate SEO module - and it's written by CEON... His work is 100% .
So it is based on your preference towards code written by CEON, using lookup tables, and more flexibility (CEON lets you use any URL - this module uses the same URLs as dynamic but adds the product title). Using a lookup table requires an additional SQL call (minor) and means more storage / larger indexes as you need to store all the URLs along with where they are supposed to go plus all the old URLs.

I understand your preference, and when people want absolute control over the URLs, CEON's is the one to use. If you don't need absolute control, don't want to spend time manually changing your URLs (or buying a tool to generate your URLs), I'd choose Ultimate SEO.

You are of course entitled to your opinion :)
