Descriptions on Main Page

Hi can anyone tell me how I can turn on the descriptions on my home page.

If you are referring to your defines main page

admin > config > define pages > set main page to "1"

thanks for your reply...No sorry it's not what I mean
On the main page you have an image of the descriptions, and then the category name under it..Underneath this I am wondering if you can show a section of the category description (which is visible once you click on that category)

Similar to this function for product descriptions......
Found in Admin>Config>Product Listing>Display Product Description

Do you want to display the Product Description?

0= OFF
150= Suggested Length, or enter the maximum number of characters to display

0= OFF
Set to on
