email stopped working??

i noticed something was wrong since i haven't received any orders for a while :no: so i tried to send nyself an order to test but i couldn't get further than "confirm the order"
this is the message that come next:
Email Error: Could not instantiate mail function. Please check Admin->Configuration->Email Options->Email Transport.

i know this must be pretty to simple to rectify but i really would appreciate some help :smile:
i set email transport method to php, smtp and sendmail but it's still no-go

i've also noticed this that i've not seen before:

I have set the E-Mail friendly-errors to true. I managed to place the order but i didn't get a notification email?

Hi, have you managed to sort it out?
I've been having the same issue. i have asked my host to look into it, because i know that i have not altered anything.

Hi, all, sorted it. somehow my email account was sending all the mail from my site to the spam folder.
So, check your spam folder, if the problem is not with your web site hosting company.
