new attributes that are added are displaying in wrong area

hi all, i tried posting this on another forum but apparently i had the wrong section. having some issues with variables/attributes.

the store's current product variables appear where they're supposed to, see where it says "please choose" and has the dropdown on the below example product? looks perfect.

well i'm trying to add a new variable ("fish size") to some new products (fish) and they're appearing in some weird "stats" box instead of where they're supposed to, see this example:

how can i move this fish-size variable up to the "please choose" box like it's displayed on the first link above?

as far as troubleshooting, when i add other existing variables from the database onto this new product, they appear where they're supposed to perfectly (i can add one so you can see if it helps troubleshoot?), it just doesn't like **new **variables apparently. my new variable appears the same as the others, so i'm just not sure what's going on. i guess this could be some sort of template issue and perhaps this would be best posted on that forum, but wanted to check here first.

any ideas? thanks in advance.
