Foreign characters turns up as garbage after database restore

Hi all! Thanks for taking the time to read my post :).

I messed up the database yesterday, so I asked my server guy to replace the database with the latest backup, and so he did but now my "foreign characters" don't look right anymore.

For example one guy called "mühlemann" turns up as "mühlemann" instead.

I've checked the collation for the "zen_" tables and it's the same as my localhost where it works (latin1_swedish_ci) (I'm from Sweden).

My server guy says he just did a simple replace of the database (and I believe him). I don't know in which direction to point him.

Would be truly greatful for any ideas, and which settings to check.

So you are saying if you now backup this restored/current/"broken" db from your hosting and restore it locally, the characters display ok?

Hi, we just managed to fix this.

Apparently something actually did went wrong during the database restore. I did'nt thought this was the case because everything else relying on the database worked just fine.

We did the restore again (which made me lose data, again, so it wasn't something I wanted to try first :)), and now the characters are showed correctly.
