Removing Free Shipping Image

I want to get rid of the Free U.S. Shipping gif on this page. It causes a huge gap between images and I just don’t like the placement. The only way I have found to turn it off is to choose Normal Shipping Rules instead of Yes, Always Free Shipping, when I am setting up the product. Is there a way I can keep the free shipping enabled without showing the free shipping gif?

Admin - Catalog - Product Types - Edit Layout - Product Free Shipping Image Status - Catalog (I don't know why that switch is there, either.)
