Error 10736 Shows up often after upgrade to ZC 1.5.1

This is a very strange error that only started showing up after we upgraded to ZenCart version 1.5.1. We previously had ZC 1.3.9a for a good several years. I can see customers who ordered with us repeatedly once every months or two in the past 3 years always through paypalwpp (Paypal Express Checkout) and always same address.

Since the upgrade to the latest version, this customer and others are reporting that they cannot go through the checkout. Once they choose the shipping and payment options (paypalwpp), paypal reports back this message and redirects the user to the shipping step of the checkout process. Here is the error streight from the paypal logs:

Response:
Array
(
[TIMESTAMP] => 2012-12-01T00:46:19Z
[CORRELATIONID] => ffed5429d4f0c
[ACK] => Failure

[L_ERRORCODE0] => 10736
[L_SHORTMESSAGE0] => Shipping Address Invalid City State Postal Code
[L_LONGMESSAGE0] => A match of the Shipping Address City, State, and Postal Code failed.
[L_SEVERITYCODE0] => Error

Notice:

  1. The address exists
  2. The address is correct (I checked in Google Maps)
  3. No other change was made

Since it's PayPal who is rejecting the address, you'll need to log a support ticket with them to find out why exactly they're rejecting it. http://www.paypal.com/mts

Re: Error 10736 Shows up often after upgrade to ZC 1.5.1

According to PayPal the address is not a valid address. They seem to be using USPS address mechanism so they themselves do not know why it is not a correct address. What is odd is that this same customer has successfully checked out with the same 'bad' address last year before we upgraded to ZenCart 1.5.1.

According to PayPal, we can send the info to their API without the shipping address, then we will not get back the nasty error of address mismatch. Is that possible without hacking the code at the paypalwpp.php file?

I'm having the same problem being reported by a few customers on my clients site. Have you tried what PayPal suggested? It makes no sense to me that is working correctly for most customers.

Any tips or feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Yes, we did tried their suggestion but it did not work. We are just having to scale down on PayPal alternative payment method. We are starting to get weird behaviors with their payment systems. Some customers can check out with free shipping where there is not free shipping available to their region, some get different rates. Very weird and only started since we upgraded to ZC 1.5.1.

It's unfortunate but we may have to move them out of ZC even though it worked great for us.
