Display products based on price and or Age

Hi,
I am setting up a Baby shop online. From the home page the customer should be able to select from predefined options of age group and or price.
How can I achieve this?
Are attributes the right thing for this ?

The usual way that's done is to create categories for age groups and price range and copy the appropriate products to them. There's a plugin that goes beyond that (originally created for auto parts sites, I think) but I can't find it right now.
