My site is running very slow - help please

Hi there,

My site is a zen cart V1.5 site : http://www.robustbuy.com .It is running very slow..It takes 15secs to load up the homepage.I am using a big package from hostgator.com LEVEL 5 VPS to host it.
which is

CPU
2.69 GHZ
RAM
1824 MB
Disk Space
80 GB
Bandwidth
1425 GB

MY host confirmed it is not server's problem,,i hope some zencart gurus can help me fix this big issue.

Kobra knows much more about servers than I do :-) And I agree that I have never come across a hosting company who said ' Oh yeah, that is our fault.'

Have you displayed the parse times? This alone will let you determine if you have a bit of a server problem or a database server problem. Have you run through developer tools and seen what is laoding slowly. Have you run ySlow?

Then you are going to want to think about caching some of the on page stuff.

And you may decide that your present hosting is not serving you in the way that you may like. Personally, I'd invest in some other hosting straight away but I am biased against your hosting company. One option is to invest in some other hosting for a month and run the same site on both hosting. You will soon see what issues are hosting related and which are not :-)

It is a Linux VPS...

I think it should be servers problem..i thought hostgator is a very big company..i even asked them if i upgrade to their dedicated server,will this solve my loading problem..and their customer service said no..

What size is your VPS?

I have over 75k products on a VPS.

2 vCPU, 2GB RAM.

I am assuming you haven't done anything to the OS, apache, mysql, etc. if you didn't know the OS type.

mod_pagespeed, php accelerator (I like eaccelerator), mysqltuner, percona, etc. will help with page serving, but you need to start with the OS.

Run htop to see your OS stats and start tuning there first.

If you are not comfortable with linux, I suggest paying someone to do the tweaks vs going with a dedicated server, as you will have the same issues.

It appears that you're using Cloudflare, which caches resources, and may not be configured properly thus causing the serious delays in your site performance.
Many users have reported that disabling cloudflare fixed their performance problems.

The advice from others is correct: Don't buy a self-managed VPS (or dedicated server) if you don't already possess the skills to be a server administrator. You need to know MANY things including the O/S, how to properly secure Apache and PHP, manage intrusions and hackers, do backups, fix performance problems, tune RAM and other settings, and more. Those are all matters best left to those who possess the skills to do it, so you should pay for those services.

And it's very possible to run a shop with 40,000 items on a properly tuned shared server. Does not need VPS or dedicated.

I use Cloudflare (Pro) in front of my VPS without performance issues.

Only issues I have had are forgetting to put it in dev mode to see css changes immediately or clearing the cache.

Once you actually 'make' the connection to the server, the navigation is fast, I would look to DNS servers first.
