How to activate “save as” for downloads ?

:mellow:How to activate “save as” for downloads ?

I am trying to set .mp3 files to download after purchase. I bought an item to test the download link. However the file opens up in a browser and starts playing the music automatically. I do want it to be opened. I want customers to be presented with the “save as” option automatically.

I have read some previous posts regarding this issue. My .htaccess file does not have # sign in front of ForceType or Header set -

This is a copy of my css -
ForceType application/octet-stream Header set Content-Disposition attachment </FilesMatch></IfModule>IndexIgnore

How can I stop opening the file in browser and give “Save As” option to customers ?

I think the easiest is to just make your downloads ZIP files instead of mp3 or wmv or whatever other format you are using. If they are ZIPS, they have to download and then extract the file to use it.

Look at the files:
/download/.htaccess
/pub/.htaccess

and ensure that you have your file extensions included in the lists ...

The .htaccess rules only work for the filetypes mentioned, and ONLY if your webserver is using apache. If you're on a Windows server you'll need to work with your hosting company for alternate means of doing what Apache does easily.
