Billing & Shipping and Product in Multiple Categories

Well, after a week, I finally figured out how to put attributes onto products. I am not good at "searches" but I did find some articles that helped and with trial and error, I think I've got it.

I have two other questions now ... I feel like such a pain, sorry.

The first question is: Under "Orders," the Legend has a red dot and says, " Billing and Shipping does not match." Billing would be to me ... I live in California. Shipping would be from where my supplier is (or I think it would be) and that is back east. Am I right on this? And if it's talking about the "ship to," that changes per order. Is this going to keep orders from processing? I don't even remember where the sections to fill out billing and shipping are anymore ... that was done a few weeks ago. Someone please tell me I did this right and if not, please tell me what I need to do. Thank you.

The second question is: I put a product into one category but want it also in another. There is a blue button with a white C that says "copy" when you hover over it, but I am not sure it that is what I need to use ... and I am not sure if that would delete from the original category. Anyone know how to put a product into two categories? Thank you in advance.

If I understand the question, the Orders page should be showing you completed orders from customers (or test purchases you have done), so it would refer to the billing address and shipping address of the customer in question.

Yes. Click on the 'C' and you'll have the option to either link the product to another category, or duplicate it in another category. The latter creates a new product in the database.

I'm not sure what the difference is between "linking" to another category or copying all to another category. I don't mind having the item actually appear in both category folders, so I guess I will copy to, or duplicate it, into the other category and have it in both ... unless linking is better (?). Thank you.

I haven't gotten orders yet ... but on the Interface itself, it says that my billing and shipping doesn't match. Under the tab "Customers" there is a dropdown arrow and so I click "Orders." From there, at the top of the page, it says "Orders." Under that, it says: "LEGEND: (Red Dot) Billing and Shipping does not match." Under this, there is a gray bar that says:

ID Payment Customers Order Total Date Purchased Status Customer Action
Shipping Comments

Under this is where the orders should go, when I get them. But above, where it states that the billing and shipping doesn't match, that is my concern. I don't know what this is asking me, or what it needs me to do. Searching through the Interface, I finally found where I put my billing address and then where I put the location the merchandise will be shipping from (I hope I can find it again) ... opposite ends of the country ... and I am not sure if this is what this message is referring to or if it is referring to something else. I'm afraid that with this red dot showing I may not be able to accept orders. Please tell me I'm wrong and that everything is okay, or how I would fix whatever it needs me to. Thank you so much.

you'll be pleased to know you are indeed wrong :-)
try creating a few test orders, use different shipping addresses (just make them up, they can be deleted after testing) and different billing addresses then you'll see the red dot legend come into play. it's a visual clue for the store owner to know that you are shipping to a different address to the card holder i.e watch out for fraud, that's all, you haven't broken anything.

oh and while testing the basics I find it helpful to enable COD payment module or pay by cheque oops I mean 'check' ;-) that way you don't have to bother with card details etc, just don't forget to disable these methods while YOU aren't sat there testing else you may get a COD order, assuming you don't plan to use cash/check payment methods.

Picandnix, thank you so much!! My mind is definitel relieved. In this case, I am very glad I am wrong. And good idea about doing the test items and using other methods of payment to check.

Stevesh, thank you for the clairification on adding merchandise into multiple categories!! It was easier than I thought it would be.

And to all who wrote about attributes, thank you. I'm not great at doing searches, but I did find some good posts regarding this and with some experimentation, I was able to add my features without much trouble.

Slowly getting the hang of this with everyone's help. You are all wonderful.
